... As prompt as always we were on our way at 7:05pm and the train was fairly quiet with the Chinese commuters as our company. I didn't sleep as well as I thought I would due to feeling a little hotter than last time. We were also woke up by the Chinese loudly talking at stupid o'clock. ... Didi and granddaughter Mengya drove us to a historic town Qingyan. In our previous time in Guiyang we visited this former Ming-era military outpost a couple of times. Qingyan dates back to 1378 and was once a traffic between southwest provinces.

In 1995 the town with its winding, smooth stone-flagged streets and partially restored city walls was a quiet haven for us to wander imagining what life would have been like.
