... slept in a monastery. The accommodation was primitive. We got the last bed. It was on the third floor, under the eaves. The room was grimey, heavy with mildew, the beds were damp with humidity. The bedding consisted of two doonas. I am pretty sure the covers never get changed. The bed was a board, mine had a ridge going down the centre.
The toilet was about 200 metres away, through the labyrinth (sp?) of the temple ...
... wash our clothes. Communication was a bit of an issue. Bill suggested buying a box of detergant, walking around, pointing to it, and saying 'where is' in Chinese. Needless to say, we didn't find a laundarette.
That night we went out in search of bars and clubs. We stumbled across a number of neon-fronted buildings on the dockside. All were named differently, but all ended in KTV. Seeing a group of girls heading into one we took a chance ...
The next morning we were woken by our host's awful singing. It was 6am and the sun had already risen, though we couldn't see much outside as a morning mist had risen aswell. By 8:30 we said goodbye to our host and set off for Golden Summit. The dirt path that we followed soon joined with a set of stone steps. Thick flag stones covered with years of moss and lined with dragon statues ...
Emeishan, Sichuan, China gregdamsell... should have been about one hour but took us more than two since the scenery was incredably beautiful. The path went beside a river the whole way and was lined with waterfalls and bridges.
We expected to see alot of monkeys on the way since it was marked as their natural habitat on the map, but we didn't see a single monkey the whole way. We were hoping to film some of the monkeys ...
... the mountain and the golden summit (a bloody big gold elephant) and we could hardly even see the dam elephant and it was 5ft in front of us as the fog was soo thick.. what a waste of time and money and effort. We then had to walk down all the step, cold, wet and a little ****** off.
We then caught the bus back to the town and then back to chengdu so that we could get a 37hr train to Shanghai.
... were all left to go damp and rot in this cold home with holes in the ceiling. While we were there, he was coughing up something terrible. At first, I just thought he was clearing his throat and chest...then it started to sound nasty, and painful. Mr.Wang was ill. He was probably more then just 'ill'. His Wife felt uneasy and uncomfortable that we had to hear this so we decided to leave. On the way out, Mr.Wang handed us a notebook and asked us to leave our ...
Leshan, Sichuan, China ray-in-china... people in the hostel...including Addi, a girl from Israel who is now travelling with us for a bit.....she is very funny and keeps saying stuff like "thats great hunny bun!" shes also been teaching me about Israel and all that serious shizzel... So after Chengdu the 3 of us managed to get down to Leshan...which is where you will find the biggest Buddha IN THE WORLD...They carved it into the rock overlooking the Dadu river to calm ...
Emeishan, Sichuan, China jendrix... they are mean and attack you. They could do some serious damage. Some people thought they were cute, but I thought they were mean and ugly. They employ people at this place whose sole job is to hit the monkeys off of tourists or trash cans. Where we were there was an old buddha from 399 AD which was really cool. He's riding on an elephant so there are elephant carvings all over Emei. Apparently in this sect of Buddhism they revere the elephant as well. That made me happy. I ...
Emeishan, Sichuan, China bambbles... will throw their scraps or other pieces of their food that they don't care for on the ground. Our guide didn't make mention of it as a special feature and we discovered that it's just normal eating habits in rural China. Even in a nice restaurant, our guide poured out some of his beer right onto the floor. You could be hung back in the States for wasting beer in some parts, so I don't think he understands the freedoms he is afforded in beer wasting in ...
