Mont mystique de monks et monkeys

... pendant 6 heures.

Okamzite jsme dole vsechno propotili a zacali shanet zmrzliny. Teplotni rozdil byl hodne neprijemny. Zasli jsme do mistniho muzea, ktere ale nebylo klimatizovane! Pak jsme navstivili jeste chram Baogou Si a blizky zvon na kopci a potom uz jsme bezeli na misto srazu a v 15.45 jsme vyrazili smer Chengdu.

heading to Mt. Emei

... From here we got on a large tram that brought us the rest of the way up to the summit at 10,000ft. The scenery coming up was spectacular with very lush growth and waterfalls everywhere. Would love to spend a couple days here just taking pictures. Finally at the top we got our rooms and were surprised at how nice they were. They really down played the facilities and I was expecting a YMCA camp situation but things were nice. We had dinner, walked to where ...

... summit. For the entire trip the weather had been so bad that the final entry was going to be along the lines of : 'There was nothing golden about Golden Summit, except maybe the sense of achievment.' But an hour after leaving the guest house, at around 6am, we passed through the mountain-hugging mist. From horizon to horizon we looked across a landscape of pale blue clouds. The sun was rising, turning the sky ...

... of Buddha. Then a bell tolled and we caught glimpses of Buddhist monks running about their religious duties. We pressed on.

Another our of walking brought us to a valley high in the mountain. It seemed the most habbited region of Emei Shan so far. A wooden Buddhist shrine stood in the center, around which children played and adults watched. When the kids saw us we became the center of attention, especially Bill's blond arm hair ...

A bif waste of time really!

Nat and Maeve wanted to do a 7hr trek up the mountain but fecked if I was doing that with my Knee (my excuse and im sticking to it) As it turned out then didnt do it and caught the bus with me. Which is just as well cause if they had of walked up the 15 gazillion steps to the bus station it would have taken them 2 bloody days...! As it was it took us about 3hr to get the little way up from the bus ...

... looking for Wenshu Monastery. It was good and all that, but it's getting to the point where you've seen one temple, you've seen them all. All of them claim to have something that makes them unique in some kind of way. This one was no different, though I forget its exact uniqueness, so it couldn't have been that amazing. No no, the highlight of the day came in Mr.Wang's Tiny Museum. This was on the map as being right in the center of the city not far ...

66,000 steps & many temples on Mt. Emie

... back to Chengdu disappointed. If you want nature and real hiking, go to the national parks 6-7 hours north of Chengdu - they are bound to be less smoggy with better scenery. We also heard that there were smaller, less crowded and cheaper versions of something similar to Emie Sham, all within reasonable distance of Changdu. Take our advice, skip this site and save yourself a lot of money, leg strain and various monkey injuries.

Emei Shan Trip

... It opened into this large swimming pool complete with elephants that shoot water out their spouts. Then there were more private smaller and warmer pools farther out. We wanted a hot pool so we headed down to find one, but instead of taking a path we climbed over some fake rocks. We did this because we didnt know there was a path. I overheard some chinese people talking about how dumb we looked and about how pretty the girls were which made me laugh inside. We found some more ...

Emeishan

... very willingly once he knew we didn't mind walking to get a fantastic experience. Approaching the stairs for the 3km hike, we got bombarded by vendors wanting to take us by banana chair / lawn chair hammock to the bottom. We decided Rachel had to get the royal treatment by being whisked away on her hammock chariot manned by two Chinese gentlemen carrying each end of the chariot. She felt so pampered. Halfway to the bottom she was famished and we had to stop for ...
