We nearly decided to this a mess, but glad we didn't and the meal was sensational, especially after a few days of doing it on the cheap in Venice. The bed at our hotel, the Sofitel, is the best I've ever slept in! And our room is great: spacious and luxurious. Tucked up in bed by around 11 ...

We are on the last full day in Budapest and running out of things we want to do in the rain! So we toured St. Stephens Cathedral (which was stunning), the Jewish synagogue (dedicated to the Hungarian holocaust victims), a quick bite at the famous New York Cafe (overly decorated and gaudy), another open air bus tour in the rain and back to the hotel. At night we dined at a Hungarian cafe for our final night in ...

... our way. An old moon is seen setting from a train window. I have no idea what the time is. Romania in the morning. Mist covers hills. Two men stand in a field, hoeing weeds. We pass a horse and cart. Two more men with hoes, then dozens of men, some women, in dozens of fields, hoeing, weeding. More horses and carts. Houses unfinished. Confused roofs, says Gina. We are passing through rural Eastern Europe, gazing with Western European eyes. ...
