Our first day will be traveling. I leave from GSP at 7am and arrive at Dulles around 10:30 am. I'll leave for Italy at 3:30pm Flight from GSP to Charlotte was short and sweet. From the time I was little, he has called me on my birthday and played the Happy Birthday song to me on the piano; since I was there in person I got a special rendition on the clock chimes (and, no, I have no idea how he did it).

Sam has not seen me since I was 3 years old or so because he went blind in his twenties. I hope that in his mind's eye he still can see the wonder and love I feel for him.

... It is all brand new and some of it can be scary, at times. California to WA/Canadian Border is a long way to go for a Southern Boy.
The one thing that keeps me excited and optimistic about the trip is the idea of "Putting myself out there". Sandburg was apparently oriented not to material possessions but entirely to intellectual pursuits, still displayed as his mess of books and periodicals around which the rest of his life was centered. Sandburg’s wife Lillian was world champion goat breeder and established a goat dairy on the farm, an operation that is still a working part of the site. Overall the Sandburg home was quite interesting and totally different from other home tours.
