New Children's Museum, (a modern museum designed for kids to investigate basic principles of science and physics through interactive activities) Simone and I went shopping, a rare occurrence that provoked much surprise, as we do not enjoy spending money on pointless items such as clothes, handbags and shoes.*
Victoria's Secret, Nine West, Banana Republic and Bath&Body Works were probably my favourites, but for the ...
... moving through the whole West coast for two months. Usually when I travel it involves super long bus rides and a lot of waiting around. During this time wanted to be productive and work on some music stuff. However, as the US transport system was so ****, I often found myself driving or occupied, meaning I hadn't really had any time for myself in the whole trip (something that became apparent to me over the following few days). For continuing, I wanted to buy the laptop though as ...
... I should do for the afternoon. And to my surprise I hear this big 'Emma!' from the lounge. And it was Belinda (from San Fran and Vegas)! I knew she went to San Diego but I thought she had moved on by then so we were both totally in shock. And there was no better way to celebrate then to hit up happy hour! And then my afternoon (and evening) was planned! The next day we were both sluggish - both have been traveling for a while and it takes ...

Whilst my departure out of the US was on my mind, I had to re focus my attention onto this race. This race was one that I had done 2 years in a row, every time moving up the ranks, still proving to myself that swimming is my passion, despite being off the College team nearly 2 years.
I headed down to San Diego from Los Angeles early that morning, it was a chilly one, but it ...
... much done and jumped on the shuttle back to the hotel. Wendy had got wind that their was a mall nearby that was open until 9.00pm. Seasoned shopping veteran that she is. After a rest for a couple of hours, we walked down to the Fashion Valley Mall. There was a Tiffany there. **** ! Needless to say, that was our first stop. I had bought Wendy two necklaces from Tiffany's flagship store in New York but one didn't fit. Unfortunately, they didn't make them any bigger ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Howard Johnson Inn - San Diego Sea World / Airport
Tricked Hotel Rates
We arrived in July, the booking was made in January, confirmed rate at $94 per room per night. When we left at 06:00AM the reception clerk presented us a bill of $161 the 2nd and $170 the 3rd night. He showed no interest in my written confirmation with total cost. So far (March 2006) the matter is still not solved.
Simple, but OK hotel. The swimming pool did not attract us. Free internet access, and complimentary ride to the airport was very convenient.
We stayed overnight in a king non-smoking handicapped room for a day trip to SeaWorld. Staff very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Immaculately clean, obviously newly rennovated. Continental breakfast served. Very convienent location for most of San Diego. Much better than we expected from any Howard Johnson's - easy to see why they won the Howard Johnson of the Year award. We will be returning to stay at this property for our next day trip to San Diego.
We booked this hotel through Hotwire - it was one of those "off the books" specials that offered a low rate but you didn't know what hotel you got until after purchase. It sounded like an ideal location, so we went with it. When "Howard Johnson" showed up with our receipt, I was a bit skeptical (though I had never stayed at a HoJo) and after reading the reviews on this site I was prepared for the worst. We got there and were very VERY surprised. Our room was very clean and well kept. I heard the tiniest rumble of an airplane at one point, but if you're staying anywhere near downtown San Diego, that's to be expected. I live in Hollywood and constantly hear the sound of helicopters, so this was like a whisper in comparison. I never heard a neighbor, so I don't think the walls are that thin. The TV worked fine. As a matter of fact, our portable DVD player plugged right into the it and we were able to watch movies we had brought on a big screen! The hotel staff was very informative and pleasant, and we just couldn't see what all the negative reviews were about! I did take a photo of the room, but I'm waiting to finish that roll, so that photo will have to be posted later. The location was excellent. You're within walking distance of quite a few stores and restaurants. While my boyfriend was busy one day and had the car I walked a few blocks over to the trolley and headed over to Fashion Valley Mall - about a 10 minute commute. I walked around the mall, caught a few movies and had a relaxing afternoon. I took the same trolley back and checked out a few of the stores on the way back to the hotel. Again, I really thought it was a much superior hotel than many of the reviews would have you believe. We confirmed on check-out that the hotel (motel, really) had recently undergone renovations. They are going to expand the lobby next, according to the front desk.
I recently went to San Diego and Stayed at the Howard Johnson on Rosecrans Avenue after reading a brilliant review about the hotel via there own description of the place, well what a mistake that was. The hotel was very run down, there was building work going on though, so that may have had a little to do with it, however I still should have been informed. The rooms basic. The offer of a free continental breakfast....not worth it. A continental breakfast should include various meats, croissants, Fresh tea and coffee, yogurts, various cereals, fresh bread and rolls, this was not what I found. Infact the complete opposite. There review of the hotel does say that attractions are close by, but you do need a car, as its situated right by the freeway. The staff were quite unhelpful and didn't seem to understand English very well, I asked for directions to Imperial Beach, and they couldn't get that right, there were other things too, but not worth mentioning.
We arrived and checked in. The night time manager was okay, but kind of weird... Getting to our room was hard as there was a lot of construction trailers around... I got in the room, flushed the toilet and it was stopped up, water running everywhere...we couldn't sleep in the room so the manager put us in the only room that was available: A smoking room!...it STUNK!...complicating matters, the walls are paper thin so we heard everyone in their rooms on each side of us...drinking, watching TV, and having sex...it was non-stop, and didn't get quiet until 4:30AM...in the morning, I took a shower and the bathtub did not drain...this hotel is also under the flight path of the airport jets shake the place! Also, the "free breakfast" is embarassing; really bad! Needless to say our family will never stay here again. Stay off Rosecans Avenue (the street that Howard Johnsons is on). I wouldn't stay here for free!
Don't want to go back
First of all, the motel and the room look nothing like the pictures. We were disappointed. The carpet was dirty. The shower didn't work until the next morning. The facility was just bad. However, the bathroom was clean and the staffs were kind of friendly. The location was good. Still, we wish that we didn't stay there and we don't want to go back.
Got good budget price from the internet so decided to stay here. Fairly close to beaches and Coronodo Island, which was beautiful.
The free breakfast was terrible. They ran out of food and had one small room with ONE table with a few chairs for all of the guests. We ended up eating outside on the pool lounge chair.
The room was to be expected from a budget room.
What a dump!
Booked this one on expedia because the photos made it look decent. Pulled up to the hotel and IMMEDIATELY wanted to cancel. Checked into the room and the feeling intensified. Carpet turned my white socks black, I could hear the people in the next room talking quietly. The pool was this tiny afterthought right by the busy intersection. Spare yourself the feeling of wasted money and avoid this place till they completely re-do it.
I booked the hotel over the internet thinking it looked okay, being part of a chain. But after spending a week in Garden Grove at a perfect hotel (with a lower rate), my kids and I arrived and were so dissapointed. Number one...we were being charged a much higher rate then anyone else we spoke with...when we arrived we said we did not like the rooms and would like to leave...they said sure, but they were still putting it on our credit card...so we ended up having to stay...we were so mad...the rooms had a smelly musty odor...the carpet was wet and the breakfast area was musty and had little flies everywhere...why did they not just let us leave when we asked...then I had to fight to lower the rate...I would never, ever recommend this place to anyone...There were people partying all night and we even had banging on our doors...maybe they should take a look at the Hampton Inns and fix up their act..I am sending Mr. Ho Jo a nasty letter...
We stayed at the Howard Johnson at Sea World and were very pleased with the room. It is not the Hyatt but for a family that is out and about and want a clean place to stay it is perfect. The bed linens were clean and fresh and the bathrooms were also very clean. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Within walking distance to shops and restaraunts. Walk to Old Town in 10 minutes and the buses run all the time.
Would stay there again.
