... It's amazing that Halloween is the one thing that draws the community together, everyone's in such a good mood, there's a total party atmosphere... all a bit worrying considering where Halloween started off. I think particularly in North America now, though, it's pretty much seen as 'fancy dress' day, but I still can't quite get used to the fact that even churches have 'heavenly halloween' parties for the little kids.

Sunday I made the most of the ...

... was a fantastic place and had lots of great programs for kids during the day as well (it was their school summer holidays by this time). On the way home we dropped in to see the Dry Island Buffalo Jump. The Indians used to drive herds of buffalo over the cliff. Some of their tribe would be down the bottom to butcher the buffalo and dry the meat etc.
Also around Alberta are lots of oil and gas wells, nearly every ...

I love libraries and gardens!

In our quest for the library, we stumbled upon the most beautiful city gardens! What a find in a roundabout way! Since Senica has a broken toe we cannot walk all over the town. I love how we found the highlights just a few blocks from the bus station!

Winter's Fist

Well so much for the wonderful winter's day. Yesterday morning I awoke to temperatures hovering around -28C with snow falling and a nasty wind. The snow continued almost unabated all day. Last night the temperature dropped to -32C. This morning the snow is gone, the sky is blue and the sun is shining ...

Home again

Home again. -13C and sunny. The ground is covered in snow and the lake is frozen solid. This may not seem pleasant to my southern friends but those of us who live here call this a gorgeous winter's day ...

Nephews First Fishing Trip

... a surprise fireworks show from across the lake just before we turned in for bed. I heard the boys giggling and was really proud of them for braving it out in their own tent. I watched shooting stars graze the clear night sky until my lids got heavy and I too, fell into a slumber. The next morning, I found that I had created a couple of fishing fanatics. I was woken up quite early by an excited little boy who was anxious ...

... who could dance asked someone else up and well I learned a few steps along the way.... No line dancing with the exception of one dance.... We had a little bit to drink that night too. It was ladies night and the shots and mixers were just $4. It was a late night and I left sorry for Jason (our designated driver for the night) who had to be up at 6.30am for work ...

... to be here - I think this is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Cities are a wonder but I find nothing more inspiring than vast expanses of nature - and the opportunity to explore. As much as I loved my life in Australia I don't regret coming here one bit, what I've experienced so far is worth sacrificing the stability. I love it. I'm thinking I could rent a place in Canmore, get some skis and a Siberian Husky and be very, very happy.
