Cornhuskin'

Oh boy. Day 3 was an action packed day. Not only did we see the world's largest truck stop (gasp!...and no we didn't visit) we ended up in Lincoln, NE home of the cornhuskers! What a formidable sounding foe. I'm trembling just imaging the terror that they must inspire in their opponents when they step onto the football field (this trip has a lot of football going on....).

Another 8 hours in the ...

A pleasant drive through farm country

... Where hay bales out number humans and cattle out number hay bales. Where dual wheel pickups are king. Where 5 plus miles views across fields are common. And where corn rules.

This drive may have added a couple hours to our trip but we saw what most tourists don't. Pictures we have, bu they are in the camera which is down in the truck. I'll try to get them uploaded tomorrow night.

So close!

Well, it's been a long time planning and it's almost here. I've got only 46 hours left before i leave for France. I do hope you'll join me on my 2 week excursion to Europe. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you may even be appalled, but in any case you'll have nearly as much fun as me (ok, let's be honest, not even close, but you'll be alright). Talk to you soon!!

TTFN
Trip preparation

Wolfram Alpha kindly calculates that we are 12 weeks from depature to Buenos Aires, Argentina from Chicago. We going to leave even sooner to go to Chicago to visit Nick's brother Joe.
Time is ticking down. I look around the apartment at the things that will go. The things we'll pack and take to Omaha to store.

Will I want this in a year? Is it worth packing, storing and then moving with us to a new place?
What can I take with me ...

The Real Univ. of Nebraska

After a short drive from Omaha we made it to Lincoln, Nebraska. The small town home to the University of Nebraska. We parked on campus and walked around looking for places to take photos. We had some fun playing on some of the statues and goofing off. We saw alot of ...

Lazy and Hazy in Lincoln

... around the college, a campus that is spread out over a few city blocks. We learned that it was not only the first institution west of the Mississippi River to award doctoral degrees in 1896,but the college also celebrated its 140th anniversary of its founding on Feb 15th 2009. Home of the cornhuskers, the locals follow all the games at a variety of bars located nearby.
Jason and I had a delicious ...

Good to see Sally again

The trip from Rawlins, Wyoming, to Lincoln, Nebraska, was a long one -- over 600 miles. It was a straight shot along I-80 with way too much road construction. (Again!) As expected, much of terrain was rather flat and boring. Lots of sagebrush for the first few hours, then lots of grassland, then lots of corn fields.

It was fantastic ...

Nebraska 2

Back in Lincoln, Nebraska. Went for a 40 mile bike ride yesterday with Rachael followed by dinner at a pizza place in town. There was over 100 imported and local beers to choose from at this place and we had a chocolate stout and pomegranite wheat beer. Going canoeing and camping in the western part of nebraska for the 4th July long weekend and will also let of a few celebratory ...

Hot hot hot.....

... 8:30pm (when it was still around 99f) it was quite quiet. We drove around the little town in the car as it was too hot to get out then parked up in the train station and braved the heat to find some food. Most places close at 10pm in Lincoln so we only stayed long enough to have a look around and eat Alligator at Billy Buzzards. Headed back to the motel shortly afterwards as it was a bit of a drive away and was treated to lincoln's cable tv with Catfish wrestling!!!
