... landing in Lyndonville, Vermont, our home for the next three days. The land got more rugged, the trees more bare, and the scenery progressively more stunning. New Hampshire and Vermont are clearly not interested in showing off for me, because we've had generally gray, rainy weather since we left the coast. But that only served to increase the drama quotient when driving through mist-filled valleys and gazing at shrouded peaks.
... storm pushed this area past 'peak' but I'm hoping as we move across southern New England towards Cape Cod we'll catch up to the colors again.
We stopped to stretch our legs at Kent Falls State Park http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_Falls _State_Park . As we climbed up the path I noticed a couple in tux and wedding gown, posing with the Falls in the background. But...no photographer? Camera, check. Tripod, check. ...
... winds picked up to hurricane speeds and it would have been really easy to be blown off the top. We were literally in the clouds. At first I thought it was raining but then I realized we were just getting wet because we were actually standing in the cloud. I could have opened my mouth and it would have filled with cloud water, which btw doesn't taste great. We were soaking wet from head to toe so we didn’t stay at the top for long but it was pretty ...
... facilities in much need of refurbishment. We had a water-side seat at the Marina Restaurant, a bar/diner by the Connecticut River. It was fascinating to watch Americans on a Saturday night out, drinking cocktails while watching college football and Major League baseball on two tvs at the same time. We ate well and didn't allow the noise levels (worse than a school canteen) to disrupt our meal.
An early start tomorrow as we move to Boston, on Columbus Day too!
