Only the cement foundations of buildings remained, thus providing a convenient name for the area, Slab City. Soon afterwards, RV campers began to occupy the area during winter months to take advantage of the rent-free parking. ... not give you the right to not take care of the land here. In riding around this place called Slab City you see a lot of trash just tossed around. There is a disposal area about a mile away but so many people choose not to use it, down the road they will close this place because of these reasons and you can't blame them.

As you can see there are some amazing sunsets here at the Slabs!

Bertha, who is originally from Mexico, had asked us what we would like to do while we are here. Karen responded with, 'eat authentic Mexican food'. So, after lunch today we drove to the border crossing near El Centro, and entered the town of Mexicali, Mexico. Our friends Chuck and Grace have made us feel very welcome as have the other folks in the RV Park that we have met. First night there was a dance. Lots of fun and met many people, some from Winnipeg and British Columbia. They actually knew where we were from and know some of the same folks. Small world. Today we got up early, a stop for water, then to WalMart and we were ready to cross the border.

We crossed at downtown Mexicali. The US were doing spot checks for guns. They blocked the road and directed the next 20 vehicles into a check line. We were the 20th vehicle.
