Santa Monica Pier
Our last full day of our SoCal adventure so we drive back north to the LA area. We decide to hit the beach and have lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean. What better venue than Santa Monica Pier? Rather than enter Santa Monica Pier from Route 66 and park on the Pier, I park just south of it in a public parking lot. With this approach, we enjoyed our …

TravelPod Member ReviewsHoliday Inn Express Los Angeles-LAX Airport
Great room, good location, good amenities and great staff.
This review is the subjective opinion of a TravelPod member and not of TravelPod.com.
I stayed here for free using my points as a departure hotel the night before my return flight to the east coast.
It was a healty walk from the rental car company to the hotel and the van runs to the airport every 30 minutes. The accomidations were OK, but the vibe of the place felt a little sketchy.
Hey, it was only one night and my goal was to just sleep.

Historical Traveler Reviews Holiday Inn Express Los Angeles-LAX Airport
Good for a short stay
The hotel offered a clean room, spacious bathroom and everything appeared very clean and quite new (renovated in 1992).
They also offered a fridge in the room. Free parking spaces and parking garage available. There's a nice Shopping center down Manchester Avenue, just ask at reception.
Avoid Mr. Lucky
Hotel keys weren't working; my husband had to go downstairs three times to get someone to let us in the room. Lucky's Rental Car works out of the lobby and rented us a dented, damaged, dirty vehicle with 200+K miles on it, no taillight, bad brakes, and a faulty transmission. The price is right, but that's about all.
Not like the pictures...
I arrived late and had a room guaranteed for hold. I had actually called prior to arriving and requested a king bed instead of the 2 doubles and was assured that it was changed, upon arrival they had no record of my request and I was stuck with the 2 doubles. I was not pleased with the room. It smelled like smoke throughout our floor even though all doors were marked no smoking on that level. The bathroom was not the greatest and the TV does not have ESPN (my boyfriend was not happy). The pictures on the internet are nothing like the actual hotel. I will not return for a second stay. I was disappointed.
The Hotel location Great Hotel Okay
The Howard Johnson hotel was quite average and do able for a good rate not to exceed 100 per night.
Try another motel
We had stayed at Howard Johnson across from Disneyland and thought it was great so decided to stay here the last night to get to the airport fast the next morning. The staff was friendly, the lobby was nice, but was disappointed in the room. When we first walked in, it had an odor, and even though the carpet looked clean, it felt sticky when walking on it. Was disappointed but was ok for 1 night sleeping.
Huge Room
A basic hotel, but the room was huge compared to my earlier stay at Quality Inn LAX. My room was clean, neat & tidied. Not as bad as one of the review I read.
The hotel was like 15 to 20-minutes walk from Budget Car Rental, where you could just pick up your rental car conveniently.
It's a value for money hotel.
Overnighter
HJ is a basic hotel close to Lax, we just stayed here 1 night before going to vegas next morning. We ate at Sizzlers next door, very enjoyable and had small breakfast in chinese restaurant. I wouldnt stay here for a long stay.
Hotel is good but restrant manager (Chinese woman) is terrible
HJ hotel is reasonaly priced and we often use this hotel as a family.
Won't Stay Here Again
Stayed here for our first night in the US and was glad it was only for one night. The location is awful but as it is very close to the Airport I suppose that is inevitable. I did not feel safe here.
The room was old fashioned and dirty with stains on the floor, carpets, bathroom fittings and bed linen.
This place needs a refit. Avoid.
