Howard Johnson Hotel - Aurora

Today basically, I just worked and then we met up with Laine in the afternoon. We picked Bangkok Garden, a restaurant just around the corner because it had mediocre reviews on TripAdvisor. It turned out to be really great (if expensive).

We went to bed really early zzzz.

By the way, we got a great deal from Hotels.com for our hotel, BTW. Props to my employee discount once again!

First port of call - Visit Elsa and Ken who are about to become first-time parents at the end of December. We're very excited to meet our new grandchild, probably by Skype the first time, in late December. Our travels will take us to Florida, Texas, Arizona and Utah, with a possible trip to India in May to celebrate Eugenie's 50th. birthday.

My last act in the states was to have one last run in with customs. Just for old times sake. I was held at the border in Detroit for about 2 hours and asked all sorts of questions and made to feel bad on no less than 6 occasions. At one point, one of the guards, after asking if I had ever been in trouble with the police before, said to me, "You better not lie to me. I'm gonna check, and if you do do lie, it's gonna end badly for you ...

... Things I shudder at the thought of someone helping me with. I also now know that, when playing swords with one, you can't hit back as hard as they hit you. This seems unfair to me and against everything I stand for as an Englishman, but it's a rule. Quite an important one apparently.
