Not a very exciting travel day. Beautiful warm weather through Oklahoma and Missouri.

We even saw gasoline for $2.99 a gallon for the first time this trip! We haven't been stopping to sightsee on the way out as we have been on this Route ...

A Nistafied Reception at the Route 66 Museum

... 8230; the last time was my wedding.

This is the biggest and best Route 66 museum to date (what, are we in Texas?). Their hook was Route 66 through the ages. There was even a sit down movie (similar to a drive-in but completely different), quite a few classic cars from each era and a gift shop! Sadly, the gift shop was classy and did not offer any rubber tomahawks.

At least we ate for free. ...

Today started fairly cool and overcast as I made my way to the Rock Cafe in Stroud for a breakfast of cheese and bacon omelette, hash browns and pancakes and syrup. Built using rock left over from the paving of a Route 66 in the 1930s, the Rock Cafe suffered a devastating fire in 2008 and has been restored as faithfully as possible to the original. Luckily most of the outer structure held so that it still looks as it has done for more than 70 years. ...

Today we woke to pouring rain. I was not looking forward to day of driving in this. We headed off first to nearby Fort Reno. This was first setup when the first western trails were being explored to assist with the management of the local Indian tribes. The visitor centre attendant told us some history about the Fort - which is now used as an Agricultural Research centre. There is a small compound with the outside of the ...
