... the traffic was minimal. The land was so dry and desolate looking. There were no birds, no sign of wildlife of any kind. Not even any signs of road kill you would typically see on the interstates. The weeds or brush that you experience around here are just nasty things. They have barbs and burrs to grab and stick your skin and clothes and hurt like the dickens when you step on them with your bare feet! Ask me how I know this.....

      Moving on

I found a really nice bike trail in Vegas this morning. Cut my ride short because I was hitting the road on my way to visit my cousin in the Sacremento area. It is about 600 miles from Vegas to Sacremento, and Bakersfield is about the halfway point.

      Ever Evolving Travel Plans

of planning, but alas all has changed.

I worked out of town until just recently so that made any
kind of travel difficult. Then last fall our oldest granddaughter came to live
with us making any travel outside of school breaks virtually impossible.

      We'd planned to ...

... I really need/want is really more than I want to spend and larger than I want to carry. A simpler solution is not to use the phone much, I’d wanted to use it to post blogs if I could find service at all, and to buy a 2nd battery for the camera then have 2 charged batteries. If I were writing a professional travel blog then I’d get the fancy stuff but alas I’m not there yet.

As for food, and I do promise to ...

      Crossing the Mojave Desert

... It just was not feasible to stop safely to take pictures.

We drove most of the day through the Mojave Desert. And the only constant was that it was arid and hot. But the landscape changed often. At first we were looking at sand and dirt with dead or dying scrub. Later it was like sand dunes on a beach, yellow in color with living plant life and some trees. Later it was golden sand dunes, with swirling patterns caused by the wind. ...
