... I guess. Even their roadside crosses. Texas is home of the Western hemisphere's largest cross. Tonight we have settled in at the Palamino motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico. We will be arriving in Santa Fe tomorrow. My best friend, Elania, used to live out there and so we will be staying with her folks(who are probably the nicest people on the planet). I haven't seen them in years so I'm very excited!
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States funkinthetrunk... seeing was infamous "Cadillac Ranch". Too cool. A local told us this guy also has a pool table you can only see from the sky, but complete with sticks and balls. oookay... Tucumcari, NM hasn't changed much in a lot of years, other than a truck stop on I-40. Many businesses still closed for season. A very good look at how things were, once upon a road.
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States 7x70on66... beans and corn were the home-spun meal Jose Luis was looking for, while the Chicken fajitas hit the spot for me. Interesting that this was another dry town, no wine, beer, just ice tea or sodas. We will be heading through Arizona tomorrow with our last stop before we arrive in Las Vegas
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States pawelek... in. A visitors centre and gift shop at the rim of the canyon also afforded some beautiful views overlooking the canyon, including a sight of the "the Fortress" and the "Light House" two features of rock that stand out near canyon rim, but accessible by way of walking track only. We then aimed the Castle into the descent incline to take us to the bottom of the canyon, locked in low gear allowed time to take in the view along the sealed, but switch back roadway. The colours ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States popusa2008We had planned on leaving Roswell early and picking up Ti in Albuquerque this morning, but just as we were packing up we received a call from Ti that he had missed his flight. This news interfered with my carefully laid out itinerary, but it actually improved our day. Instead of rushing to Albuquerque, we were able to take our time and watch Venus beat Serena at Wimbledon. Instead of spending half the day driving west to ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States sarahl56Now we officially started our Route 66 self-guided tour. We began from Tucumcari, NM with the hopes of checking out their dinosaur museum. Unfortunately, the museum was closed due to it being a Monday as well as a holiday. The rest of the city was not impressive so we decided to move on back to TX via the historic Route 66.
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States fishy979Of all the neon signs along 66, this one is probably the most famous. Even people not that familiar with 66 might recognize this one. Unfortunatley, we pulled in for the night and the sign is turned off. We new that the hotel was closed until spring but hoped it ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States ramblinraaschIt is a beautiful cool morning in New Mexico. The winds died down sometime during the night. I turned on the air conditioner to create white noise so I could sleep. Right now I am watching the cows make their way across a field in front of my cabin. The calves are kicking up their heels to play. I ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States tonalgrace... evening I am in a little KOA cabin in Tucumcari New Mexico. While Sebastian was out defending his territory from another cat, I had a local visitor. A tarantula, I will try to send the photos of this shy creature. It wanted to come right in and say hello but quickly ran away when I went toward it. I went and got kitty away from his black ...
Tucumcari, New Mexico, United States tonalgraceWe left Las Vegas behind this morning and took the road that goes accross some of the most barren land you could ever see. It was real interesting. Lots of red dirt. We found the location of the reunion and had lunch. We went by the home where Marty grew up. Photo is attached. It looks good. Tonight is a bar-b-q. I am sure I will have more to report.
