Started our road trip today. We drove out of Dallas towards Jackson, Mississippi stopping along the way for lunch at Catfish Village that serves tradition southern food. We had more than our fill of deep fried EVERYTHING.

We arrived in Jackson and enjoyed a quick self guided tour around the city. We did accidentally find ourselves in the dodgier part of town. Thank goodness for our trusty nav man. ...

... in a suburb just north of Jackson, enjoying some of Dan's frequent flyer points! The hotel is very nice, and seems to be very recently built. We walked to a nearby shopping area and ate at a restaurant called "Newk's." We shared a half salad and a 10" thin crust pizza. It was very good. For those of you who like to frequent Druid Hills, their website states they have a restaurant there, now.

Tomorrow, we head for Birmingham...

... Native Americans (the Quapaw). Today, not much (ok, really nothing) is left. The site lost its significance when Little Rock was founded and the river changed its course. There were a couple of surprise wildlife sightings: an alligator in the bayou and an armadillo that wasn't road kill!! ... pick it up Tuesday and ten drive northwest to Colorado. We will weave our way through the state, northward to Wyoming. Being native Mississippians, and it being mid July, we are looking to go to the cooler elevations... for two weeks.
