... making more of them today. Yesterday (Monday) the kids went back to school. Apparently last year the younger kids went in the morning and the older ones in the afternoon. I was expecting just to have the 5 younger kids there in the afternoon. Somehow that changed, and now they all go in the morning. I took in a whole stack of coloring books and sticker books which i'd brought with me from Australia. I just ended up sitting with the younger kids and coloring for a while ...

It never was that cheap, I thought, the first time I visited there five years ago when I was living in Prague. spent the day there, got to sit in a nice coffee house and sample some great Hungarian wine in what used to be the Jewish ghetto during World War II, now a major tourist destination. Then I hopped the overnight train to sighisoara, the birthplace of Vlad "the impaler" Dracul, the original Dracula, in Transylvania. Apparently he really never did drink ...

The wind was a bit too strong so had to wait a bit and then it was still too strong for me to go it alone so I got hooked up to John again. And I think people are starting to recognize us - the guy at the internet place, the lady at the pastry shop who insists on having an entirely one-sided conversation in Romanian every time we go in there, the woman at the convenience store where we buy the diet coke, and of course the teen girls at Fast Food Hector (our new fav restaurant - you get 2 hot dogs in each bun!). ... after the heat of the last couple weeks. Our first day trip was to Bran, which is where Bram Stoker's Dracula (the book, not the movie) is based. We saw Bran Castle, which wasn't as spooky as you would have expected for Dracula's Castle. But from what we have read, Vlad Tepes "The Impaler" (the person the Dracula character is based on) never actually lived in Bran Castle. You wouldn't know it from the town though. They have taken the Dracula theme and really gone wild with it ...
