Footie Fight!

Today I learnt how passionate Englishmen are about their "football"........ I thought nothing of the blazing blue Chelsea beanie on my head as I wandered around the place. Within an hour, three pommies had greeted me with obscene gestures or roars "yeeeeeeeeeeaaaah Chelsea!" Many glared at me like I was a sheep's placenta that they had been forced to eat. One man serving me at the newsagency went so far as to mumble about the number of women who had no loyalty to the football area and simply ...

We got on to the ferry to Saint Malo and Julz was feeling sea sick. Instead of sitting in our club class seats, she chose to spend an hour outside and then the rest of the journey in cattle class right at the back of the ferry!! Si was very supportive x

... cafes for a beer. We then walked back to the room and Sandy took
another nap before heading out for dinner. We walked across the
square to an Indonesian restaurant, the same one that Charlie and I
ate at 5-6 years ago and ordered the “rice table”, an order of
around 20 different dishes that they spread all over your table. A
great meal and the rice table is certainly a treat if you get to the
Netherlands. During the meal ...

I met Whitford on a swim up pool bar
stool on the island of Langkawi, off the northwest coast of Malaysia,
just in sight of Thailand. He and his wife Heather were vacationing
there when meeting up by chance with three other wonderful couples at
the pool. My four days were spent with the group, self named the
“Pelangi Parliment”, Pelangi being the resort we were staying at.
I bonded with Whitford immediately as we were ...

A few hours in Jersey

... made our way down to Market Street and the Fish Market. Bought ourselves some Jersey fudge and chocolates and Jacqui got a new dress. Then we walked back and had dinner at the cafe below the Pomme d'Or Hotel. I had rump steak with melted cheese and avacodos...and I'm sad to say I was more impressed with the grilled veggies that came ...

Ferry to Guernsey, Dinner w/ TV Star & New Friends

... they were close by, and partly because they offered a 7-course set dinner. The dinner was excellent, and we decided to get the wine course to go with the dinner, for 55GBP/person for 7-course dinner with paired wines. The dinner was so good that we forgot to take pictures of a lot of it. The chef is actually starring in his own TV show on BBC. It's called Blagger's Banquet. Sounds like an interesting concept. You can try to download the ...

... port and Great Britain to starboard" the Chief Officer declared. (Not strictly accurate, with Alderney to starboard, but the sentiment is right.) A little later, I worked out when we'd cross the line of my outbound course, and watched for it on the GPS: I completed "Round the World by Sea" at 08:41, at 49° 58.48' North and 01° 59.17' West. Looking at the plan ...

Thanksgiving (s)

Last weekend I went to the Jersey Channel Islands to celebrate Thanksgiving with some friends from high school /grade school (Phil and Thia). (I also saw Lion King the Musical before I left). Phil lives in Jersey (technically part of the UK, but you can see France from there) and Thia is studying in Paris this semester. He lives in a nice little beach-side cottage Phil didn't realize that ...

Guernsey Islands

St. Peter Port in Guernsey, Channel Islands was an interesting mix of British and French culture. Street names, architecture, and language are a blend of influences. We toured the main Anglican church and saw with marble statues and tombstones written in French. There was a small street market filled with handcrafted jewelry and pottery, and British pubs that promised to bar patrons who were too rowdy during football games.
