... paying to perhaps avoid Japan Jail. This is one time when I felt not knowing the language kept us from communicating and defending ourselves. But this was just a food experience and we weren't going to let this get in the way of our fun. In general people have been so nice. As we tell people of this experience, they apologize even though they had nothing to do with it. Lesson learned: order from restaurants that have picture ...

We adjusted our plans and visited a private museum (there are hundreds of them around the country) with a great view of the lake. Mt Fuji unfortunately was behind rain clouds. The most amazing displays were the collection of kaleidoscopes and Chinese jade and ivory carvings. Some nice modern Japanese art as well.

... products, lots of them packed in fancy gift boxes. The people at the registration desk are friendly, but hardly speak any English, so communication is kind of difficult. We had wanted to have dinner in the Winery itself, they pride themselves for the delicious food that is served there. But as it turns out they only serve lunch at the Winery and we are told we can have dinner at the hotel and that it will be a dinner made with local products. After trying to communicate with the ...
