First things, first, apart from a final visit to the outside toilet, was to put the last of stuff in the suitcase and close it. With everything packed we made our way down from the cottage to the main house for some breakfast. ... harbour and yacht club OTPS ( Pöllisaari in the Harbour Guide) we turned our noses southwards and prepared to leave latitude 65°N behind, our first harbour to be on the island of Hailuoto, some distance off the coast from Oulu and on the western side and called Marjaniemi. Of course, the wind was as always, difficult, in that it was non-existent for most of the 34 mile journey. Indeed, the forecast for the forthcoming few days is for equally light conditions. This, I suppose, ...

... Mind you there wasn’t much of it, at least initially, so even if it had been in a more favourable direction, it wouldn’t have done us much good.

Today we were going to make the penultimate leg of our northern journey, covering about half the distance to Oulu, we planned on stopping in a small guest harbour called Varessäikkä, just over 20 miles away. Firstly however, we needed to wrestle with the diesel pump and I’m happy to report ...
