The alarm was set reasonably early but as usual, when we are here in Venejärvi, it's hard to get out of bed. After putting the alarm on snooze a couple of times, we finally dragged ourselves out of bed.

We needed to be up early too, this wasn’t just a run of the mill day when time wasn’t so important. We had to get from the depths of the Lappish forest, way up inside the Arctic Circle, to Helsinki. This journey was the first leg of ...

... t dwell upon our parting too much – we would be seeing each other again in the coming months and as a group including Richard, in November.

Our neighbouring boat in the harbour on the starboard side ( there was only one and one on the other) was unusually, sporting a Cruising Association burgee and even more unusually, she was a Finnish boat, a Hallberg Rassy 43 called Duo and belonging to Sakari and Merja Jorri. Sadly they had been busy with guests the previous evening ...

During the changeable weather yesterday, one momentous event occurred during the late afternoon, the wind finally became unstuck from the north and for a time, actually came from the south east. Naturally therefore, as I'm nothing if not an optimist and especially as yesterday’s forecast predicted it, I assumed that the wind would be blowing from this direction this morning but sadly and to my dismay, it was firmly back from whence it’s been all June – ...
