Parkgata 4 Tromsø, Troms, North Norway, Norway, 9008, 77-66-83-00
Greetings friends & family from Tromsø, the northernmost point in our journey and by far the furthest north either of us has ever been! We are at about 70 degrees North latitude, which is approximately equivalent to Barrow, Alaska. We arrived in Tromsø by bus, and have spent the last 48 or so hours exploring this neat little town of about 50,000 people. We have... ... savored delicious arctic beer at the Mack Brewery (furthest north in the world, or it was, until recently). ... checked ou...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway lea-and-dan... a medical check-up. These three seals are apparently the only bearded seals in captivity. After that we got some beers, the first few beers that we have been able to afford! These were the cheapest at 1 pound a bottle, and the cheapest that we have found so far. We also went for one more walk, but again no luck.

A nice and early start for our journey towards Boden, where we stayed the night before carrying onto Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland!
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway ktandash... the occupation army searched them out. Just about every town or village of any size in the Tromso region and Finnmark seems to have some type of museum so that no one forgets.

Now, as we head towards the North Cape, the wind seems to have a bite which would make some sense.

The fish and quality of it in this part of Norway is just superb. I am in seventh heaven given the flavourful cod, salmon, flounder, herring and mackeral.

Tromsø, North Norway, Norway sinilintu... that the place we wanted to visit is not far from the city center and everywhere are within walking distance, we were relaxed and happy to leave the hotel to start exploring Tromsø City.
We then walked to the Tromsø Bridge expecting to visit the Arctic Cathedral on the other side. I was so exciting because I had never thought that I could walk across the bridge! The view provided from the top of the bridge was brilliant ...
Tromsø, Troms, Norway cristinaw... able to take a poo whilst running... one of the funniest and smelliest things I have ever seen. We spent about an hour being relentlessly dragged through the arctic wastelands by these incredibly enthusiastic dogs. It is hard to understand how a living creature can actually enjoy such a straining task, but upon our arrival back at the wilderness centre the poor buggers looked dissapointed. We were told later that they are capable of towing a sled for 18 hours straight, then ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway jimborussellArrived in Tromso at about 1730 and went to the Radisson to ask about the airport bus, when the first one was and when the last one was. Last one was at 8pm and the girl said that the airport shuts at 1am. We decided to go for a wander and ask a second opinion. We found reasonably priced cabins for the night out at the campground and called the taxi to find out how much ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway leahandgreg... profs and I (the only males) were the triple. It is a little weird rooming with the profs. After we settled in, we walked down the waterfront and took a bunch of pictures. The Tromso waterfront reminds me a little of Houghton, MI. It has a main street running along the water with a semi steep hill behind it. There is also a bridge. We walked down to the Norwegian Polar Museum. It contained all sorts of paraphenalia on the history of the ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway amadhatter... cleaning the drink dispenser at the time preventing some unlawful borrowing. Towards the end of this walk, one foot had started to blister when i arrived at the reception. Tired from the walking I lean on to the shelf above the receptionist where I accidentally knocked a plastic holder (containing travel information) off over the shelf which landed on a full cup of coffee which went all over the computer. WHAT AN ENTRANCE!!! Thank goodness the ...
Tromsø, Norway sd0744... snow. We watched some paragliders launch from up there as well. Looked fun. We walked around town a bit and saw the arctic museum. It talked about different arctic explorations. I was most impressed by the captain who planned to ice his boat in and float across the north pole. When he realized he wasn't going to get very close he selected one man and they set out on foot! They didn't make it back to their boat before winter so they made a tent and waited until it got ...
