I wonder how this city looked around 100 years ago. With women in nice dresses and men in suits.

I also met Annika, who works on her Master thesis. I was able to help her a little bit with my laptop and we had some nice conversations.

... tried to help, they said the Noltes in Detmold were like Smiths in the US. We looked in the phone book and there were about 25 Noltes. Not really as common as the Smiths, but a few. ... the ICE train to Hamburg via Hanover. She is promising to visit us in Hobart in 3 years, when she retires. The journey took about 2 1/2 hours to Altona station the third Hamburg station. We arrived at our hotel, a short walk from the station and were so tired we went to bed and slept till around 9 o'clock. On waking, much refreshed we walked around the corner to an Italian restaurant. The food was so good that we will probably dine here again tomorrow night, for Denys' ...

... is also connected to the botanic gardens. It really was like walking through a beautiful park. The individual graves are planted out with trees, bushes and flowers. Most had simple headstones, some were more elaborate but not over the top. ie. no great granite slabs. Bielefeld is also the home of Dr Oetker ( think custard powder) which is a huge multi national these days. The factory is highly visible from the overhead walkway on the way ...

... years later in 2004, then again in 2006, and this is now the third time. In the evening we dined at a local traditional German restaurant, completing the meal with a magnificent creme brûlée - torched individually at the dining table. And after eating lots of German bread and Turkish treats during the day, it's back to the diet drawing board for the rest of our travels.....ha ...
