Surprise reunion

... the rest of the day in Strasbourg, eating at the same restaurant I ate at last time so he could experience tarte flambee. We also tried some Alsatian wine, which was excellent.

He went in the cathedral while I waited in the sunshine with Lincoln, so I still haven't seen the interior or gone up the tower. A Brief Stop in Alsace

... got a salad. Bad idea.

After dinner, we casually strolled through town back to the hotel where we finally got an internet signal. We tried to do some blogging and catch up on life over the pond back home. Once again, during my traditional nighttime shower after completely flooding the bathroom, I went to bed for a very early train to Munich! Oktoberfest, here we come!

Sidebar about euro showers: why can’t Europeans put up shower ...

AMAZING PLACE

... hotel is a big picture of the little prince AND apparently the rooms are decorated after different themes from the book. I didn't get to go in but someday I will definitely stay there.
I also saw my first movie in a German theatre which was really cool...I saw Up, I liked it but obviously didn't understand much. Anyway, I definitely recommend it...even just for a few hours!

The final push into germany..so to speak..

Last leg of the European jaunt and we've decided to try out the Black Forest...the bad weather was the final nail in the coffin and after 3 days of dripping foggy weather, we decided to jack in the caravan and head to Octoberfest, but more of that later.

So a quick trip to a 500 yr old stud farm started by King Wilhelm the 1st, where they breed beautiful Black Forest horses and Arabs then, Baden Baden to take in the sights of this thermal spa town and ...

The cradle of Europe

... tarte flambée contains only bacon and onions. We decided to take it to the next level where they also add cheese as a topping. It was delicious! We completed our meal with French beer, Kronenbourg, which is everywhere here (though I have drank it in Canada as well). After lunch we started our second audio tour but were tired of walking long before it was completed. We had visited many important buildings outside of the ...

Baden Baden... Just what the Doctor Ordered

... Phantom of the Opera). I got out at 4pm and Mel and Bella and I went to an amazing Czech Slovakian resuarant for a late lunch. I had a huge serving of goulash with potato dumplings. Everything felt homely and tasted delicious. Mel had duck. Then we drove the 3 hours home! It always strikes me funny as to where I connect that word, "home" with. Right now it is Luxembourg and it feels good to be home.

A nice detour

We caught the wrong train and wound up in Gengenbach. While we were waiting for a train back we met a lady who told us the town had a beautiful old-town section. So we went discovering again. After a good look around we stopped at a pub while we were waiting for the next train and got talking to the owner. Turns out he'd been to Australia on holiday, so we had a good time talking to him until it was time to go.

... part of your body, including your feet. For two Americans who aren't used to this it was a bit uncomfortable. Still, nobody else seemed too bothered so we took a "when in Rome..." approach to the whole thing. Again there were saunas of varying temperature and steam rooms as well. There were also showers of varying temperature including an ice-cold bucket that you could dump on yourself as a contrast to the heat of the saunas. We ...
