The Cathedral took 632 years to complete. During the war, 90% of the central city was destroyed. Eau de cologne was originated here in 1709 by the Farina family. They have excavated the Jewish settlement a little more than on my last trip and plan to open an underground museum within 2 years. We visited 7 Christmas markets as the weather was nice. Bars were dark and played strange music but local beer was very nice. I had to try the typical german shnapps which was actually nice as well.

An hour drive from Trier, we finally reached Koblenz. Got to see a piece of Berlin wall, had a typical German meal Schweinshaxe (Pork Knuckle with mashed potato and Sauerkraut) pair with a local beer! Yum! After our meal, we headed to the cruise port for an hour ride to explore the Rhine River.

... going to love it, and that she was right. The architecture really appealed to me, and it seemed to be easy to navigate and get around the centre. The weather was starting to clear up, and I wandered around the town centre, paying a visit to Beethoven's house and then getting a bratwurst and pommes (fries) for lunch. My German was starting to come back to me, although not very much, and the sun was shining. I popped into the shopping mall to use the bathroom, ...
