    ... the Mosel river on a cycleway that runs between the river and the many small vineyards planted in impossible stone-wall terraces that hug the rocky cliffs. Access is by little monorails that enable an assortment of motorised carts to claw their way up the cliffs to where people are working.     ... They were there for the funeral of the man who owned the major newspaper in Cologne and so the church was cordoned off. We could not get into the church.

    so, we did what we had to, eat in a super elegant sweet bakery where we enjoyed dessert style cakes that were flooded with strawberries, cherries, etc., cream frosting, ......you get the picture.


    Unknown to me, COLOGNE IS FAMOUS FOR COLOGNE, PERFUME AND AFTERSHAVE.

    ... on their altar. Really!!!!!???? Outside is really black and grimy but can't be cleaned because it is too difficult to get to it. Spent our break looking round shops and eventually found ourselves an extra bag for travelling. Pleased about that.
