We left around 10.30 in sunshine and headed back over the bridge to the main road and turned left. All was going well until we tried to turn off on to the coast road, only to find that there wasn't a slip road where there should have been one! Silly Emily got her knickers in a twist and sent us in towards the centre of Les Sables des Ollonnes and we ended ...
... La Rochelle. It was probably about 10k away and a very nice ride once I got through the wet gusset stage (bikers you know what I mean) It was a beautiful place and well worth the effort. The second-hand Scott I brought as a shopper had it's first proper excursion and it did brilliantly despite it's vee-brakes and pogo-stick RST forks.
I'm getting used to the idea of touring in a van now and enjoying it ...
... not exactly the stuff of everyday communication.
But ever since coming to Cristallin, I've started to see the wisdom in that choice. Everywhere we look we are reminded of folk tales and fairy stories.
We've also started to see very clearly (Cristallin means clear vision) the gap between fantasy and reality; the truth of the rose-tinted glasses metaphor; mythical vs real-life France.
