Although we have passed many 'maisons des ecluserie' that have been sweet or pretty or charming or interesting, this one takes the prize for having the most character. The garden was scattered with objets d'arte of all descriptions, created by the resident ...

... I could heat my 'TV dinner' and have a cup of coffee too. Beer and wine were part of the deal, which only required me to sign the visitors' book and to make a donation according to my means/conscience. What a wonderful service!

I slept reasonably well and was up and out by 8am,while the good folk of the village were still asleep in their characterful old-fashioned timbered houses.

I walked through open fields of ...
