... the Old Town has been perfect. Walk out the door and there are so many things to see and do.
Museums abound, walks along streets laden with fashion houses - no possible temptation there as we are already at the limit of airline weight allowances - churches, cathedral, basilica, river cruises - all add to the colours and flavours of such a charming city.
And the people really have been friendly and charming.

Ben loved the long walk in the park ...

Such a lovely morning that we delay setting off and have a potter around Besancon. It is a really charming town and we will definitely come back again. We do discuss idea of staying for a week now but in the end decide to continue south to be sure of hotter weather. South to Lyon, another Mercure chain ...

... land, but it is now a new, modern area of unique architecture, shopping, dining, and a new museum (“the cloud”). From there we drove back to the apartment. It had stopped raining, but we were all pretty tired out so we passed on a visit to the park for now.

We had a quick rest (Cass had actually fallen asleep in the car!), then we got ready for another party! Marc & Estelle had a 40th birthday ...

... both nice too. Then we went for a little evening walk again, up around the Fourvière. Really nice and romantic. There was a park near the Fourvière and we sat on a bench and looked up at the stars, another totally stereotypically French moment. Then when the park was closing, we walked down the steep winding stairs into the old town to make our way home. Monday, I had a full day of lesson planning preparation to do. I thought about doing it ...
