... Florac is at the base of a huge ridge and it is pretty soon we realised that our GPS was navigating us up the windy road that would take us all the way to the top of the plateau. Where we were once looking up at this beast of an elevation, it wasn’t long before we were at the top, looking down on the tiny village and the valley that surrounded it. The next part of the drive involved cutting across the plateau, a feeling of literally being on ...

... survives. Day 2. The sun is shining but the wind is crazy, things keep hitting our van at high speed, small trees are snapped in their restraints and dust is everywhere and still only 9 degrees but we head off anyway along an old railway track to see what the other little towns in this valley of Arre are holding. The new cycle way to Arre was a delight with the most colourfully lit tunnels ever, one being 440 metres long! We crossed over a suspension bridge into ...

I don't think we are in Vichy France now so wonder how it still looks so in tact. Actually I do know, it's so remote and off the beaten track and sunk into the hillside that even we nearly missed it with our GPS and detailed map! It's only 9 degrees outside, a howling wind blows and its started to ...

... time we enjoy this tiny red rocked area. Day 3. We ride once more but this time back up the valley to Brusque a small village we couldn't visit in Elvis on the way down. He was too fat! We couldn't visit the ruins we'd seen from the road as they were in private hands but we did have a very nice cafe stop. We headed back home and as we neared Camares Clive went back and I did a detour back into The Rougier to go and climb the hill (2,618ft) to Chateau Montaignt. ...

... and at the end I believe my organs had been rearranged; I have never felt so beat up. Amazingly, after Treves (which, had I looked at a map instead of following my directions, could have been reached by continuing further on the smooth road before joining the nominal route on what certainly could only have been a better road) the descent continued all the way ...
