15 Cours Gambetta, Espace Forbin (formerly Citadines Apart'hotel Aix Forbin) Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France, 13 100
... English in the entire town. We found our hostel super late at night (and they don't make hostels in France like they did in Spain... no more free internet!). The next morning, we walked into town not really knowing what to see or do. But as we were looking for a quick Petit Dejuner (breakfast) we stumbled upon the Saturday market. We sat at a cafe on the square and had the most amazing breakfast 5 euro can buy if you ...
Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France tommcatt... Argh! I tried to get him to go up into the town and explore, but I couldn’t drag him further than a few blocks - worry that we needed to be back in time…?!?!

Finally around 4, they opened the gate so we could drive in. Only to find the ticket office didn’t open until 6pm. While waiting, we talked with a lovely Frenchcouple who were completely unperturbed at our lack of language ...
Marseille, Provence, France 2totango... As is usual here, it's been an uphill struggle trying to organise it all, but it seems that all paperwork is fianlly done, mainly thanks to our legendary tutor here, who bought us a coffe and told us "ze word for zis yearrr iz 'frrreeedomm"! So on to the studying now! I gave a presentation a few weeks ago which went really well, and the lecturer said was 'impeccable'. However, I don't think all my work will carry on in this direction, so I will make my excuses now: the ...
Aix-en-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France cft89Bonjour avec Aix-en-Provence Cherie
Since the last news we have visited the Cote D'Azur spending time at Monte Carlo and Antibes. We stayed near Antibes at a place called Biot and at night you could hear the seals at nearby Marineland - very strange. It was still quite hot and stickey with more mozzies. Monte Carlo was wall to wall money with billions of dollars in boats and cars. Antibes was similar but it had a lovely old town as well.
We arrived ...
Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France falkewindMarseilles is a great city to get lost in. It may even be a great city to find yourself in. Streets branch off at acute angles that leave buildings on corners sucking in their bellies and hanging on for dear life. They probably mark the spots where some ancient forebear- let's call him 'Desmond’- manned a barrow in the marketplace and the rest is history. The grid plan came later or elsewhere. This is more like a ...
Marseille, Provence, France hardiek... br>The Saint-Sauveur Cathedral. It was a slightly bizarre mix of the very old and the very new and everything in between. Very old frescoes are visible in one part of the baptismal area, but other parts have been covered with paintings that are only a couple hundred years old. On the altar, the bishop's chair looks like a gilded piece of modern art modified to be a bidet. Also there is a statue of a saint emerging from the back of a dragon who, according to the ...
Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France 3beansabroad... amazing location from the road. We will say that from a distance there are few towns anywhere that are quite as pretty as this one: its multiple layers of ancient buildings all covered in various shades of limestone make it look like creamy wedding cake waiting to be sliced up. The late afternoon light added to the effect. Rating: 9 for beauty and 5 for experience. Yet another of the official MBTIF towns we packed into a massive MBTIF day trip, this one is ...
Aix-en-Provence, France jenandjeffmilum... and found them in the process of packing up. The region of Provence is absolutely gorgeous, particularly as you get away from the bigger towns like Aix and drive further into the countryside. My advice would be to find yourself a little B&B and get out an explore some of the country roads and vineyards as that is the bit of Provence that we hope to get back to some day.
Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France wells2008... que esperando ônibus!) Aix-en-Provence, France blanchedubois... by about four pieces of luggage? She confessed that she nearly disembarked at Avignon, but other passengers had looked at her ticket and told her "No! Aix will be the next stop." We actually had yet another ticket to go from the train station into town. We were told that it was for a bus that needed to be caught on the other side of the station. Darlene lugged her four pieces of baggage around, while I lugged my suitcase, toiletry case and purse. I ...
