... beautiful or as spectacular as I thought they would be given the write up - the walk to the view was well worth it.

The walk went up a steep path along side a calanques (not sure which one!). We could now clearly see what these muddy looking cliffs were made from. Lots of rocks of various sizes make up the imposing structure. I assume that the Calanques closer to Cassis and Marseille ...

... majestic Calanques looking down at us (apparently named MUGEL and FIGUEROLLES). A Calanques is a 'steep-walled inlet' or in other words a huge cliff! The ones looking over la ciotat seem to be made of mud but I think they are actually a dark limestone. We jumped on a boat tour and went from La Ciotat to Marseille. It took about 2 and a half hours. We came back to the room with a bottle of wine and asked at the front desk for a couple of glasses of ice. The guy was gone for a while and came back with two empty glasses.
