... an engine but up close you could hear it was the sound of the gas escaping from the ground, like a pressure cooker. Close by there was a small bell tower which was tolling frequently, being tolled by hikers to please the kami (spirits) of the mountain. It was a very special experience, well worth the wait! Tonight, tired in the hotel, we're turning in early because tomorrow we have a whole day of driving ahead of us. Further to the East, to Kawayu ...

Carried on to Asahikawa, where we have had another beer festival at the station. The weather was now definitely turing into rain. This ruined our plan to climb Asahidate an active volcano and we planned for next day another excursion

Thanks to the lady at the tourist information we found an excellent restaurant close by the hotel. Original Japanese food and we enjoyed very much

I should precede todays story by telling you about the planning at the tourist information centre.... we approached the lady and asked about going to the snow.....she ummed and ahhhh-ed and said "we haven't realy had any here this year" we explained we were happy to travel somewhere else for the day...she looked at her PC and finally said "OK, so if you catch the train here (circles stop on rail map) and then catch a bus for 30min there will be some ...
