quick visit

Just paid a fleeting visit to St Tropez on the way to Avignon (so we thought)... had to be done really.. a quick wander around and a very quick coffee. It was much smaller than I thought. Lots of nice boats but loads of tourists too.... that was about it!

What a nice surprise

So we left St Tropez to head towards Avignon. I wanted to drive along the coast and we found a little road to take us there.. Little alright! It was about 11 or 17km of narrow winding steep roads. The worst part was the cars we occasionally ran into coming the other way and the big drop on the other side!
But it was all worth it. We found all these beautiful little beaches. We stopped at one and ...

A quick visit to Port Grimaud.

We also took the short drive to Port Grimaud, to visit this small but new harbour town built in what was once marshland, but is now row after row of condos and homes built in a web of jetties to allow the homes to anchor their boats at their doorsteps. Of course, we would have rather spend our time on the beach, but with bad weather, Grimaud was a nice alternative.

... a salad, some beef, and dessert. Sounds fine right? except for the fact that between each of these stages there was an excruciatingly long wait. When Sophie asked for some mayonnaise for her fries the waitress said sure and then went and had a smoke. She had completly forgotten. The next day was basically the same. We went to the beach in the morning (cloudy again) and too a bird park in the afternoon. Birds are pretty cool. I can totally understand though why someone may want to ...

Exhausted and loving it

... to the world wars I have ever seen, lit up at night. That, and we had some translators so we could understand what it all means. Very inspiring. So all in all, Nice has by far been the best place we've been to. More likely than not, it's because of the people we have met, and the hostel is the most friendly place I have ever been in. And apparently when we talk French, the accent is sexy. As Mitchell would say, to the delight and endless amusement of ...

The Mediterranean

... I was also surprised that I seemed to the be the only female on the beach who laid in her top! The sea was cold and very deep very quickly but it was perfect and calm like a swimming pool! It was perfect. To my amazement I could swim easily and then realized that it was because swimming wasn't even necessary due to the salt! I was able to float on the sea without even moving. I ...

... and Ebony. Saturday we took our train ride out into the country to a little village Puget-Theniers. We walked kilometres around the village and surrounding area and on our way back to the train station someone stopped to talk to us, and we assumed he was offering us a lift, but it was really quite amusing as we had not encountered anyone all day who spoke English, and this chap was no exception. With sighs and signs we managed ...
