It was originally the main mosque in southern Spain when it was ruled by muslims. After the catholic kings conquested the area, they decided to basically renovate it into a church. As for the holy relic (because what would a cathedral be without one), we were instructed to look high above the main alter towards windows representing the Passion, this served as the backdrop for Jesus' Crown of Thorns, which is said to have been displayed here many years ago. ... beautiful and all of the stain glass windows were amazing. The place was choc o block full of people as a church service was about to take place. It was a very cool experience as there was a huge choir and their singing echoed throughout the church. We eneded up seeing many sights that day including: Arc de Triomphe, River Seine, Hotel de Ville, Champs Elysees, De la Concorde, fancy bridges, churches and old buildings.
