... numbers running north/south and south/north and odd numbers for roads running east/west or west/East. The soil in the Black Forest is not fertile so there are mainly fir trees here. Beech or Oak trees are rarely to be found. Until the Middle Ages the Black Forest was truly a dark forest - the Romans called it "Silva Nigra", a murky and almost impenetrable woodland. This situation changed in the late Middle Ages, when huge fir and pine trees were all of a sudden used ...

Upon arrival Beate took us to a great viewpoint of all Freidburg at the top of a hill. At the start of the Black Forest this hill had a spectacular view and ...

... were wiped out from the kids waking them up early that day so Frank and I decided to try a Mexican restaurant that they recommended. I have to say the quality was very good. The chips and salsa were sub par (but we all know how picky I am about my chips and salsa). The food was good but bland for Mexican standards, which I imagine is pretty typical round these parts. Oddly it was quite comforting to hear people speaking ...

... We were lucky to arrive with immediate check in, not many passengers had arrived yet.

Our room – wow - how cool – very modern – Room 312, perfect for Leanne and I, we worked out where we’d store our things, shared cupboards and areas so we would be setup for the week. I joked with Leanne and said I’d teach her what it was like to have a sister.

      The flowers and chocolates ...
