Paris, Île-de-France, France travelingmom... States in 1994. Fiona and Tatiana were 3 and 1 years old respectively and we were preparing to embark on a totally new phase of our lives. Fiona spoke only French then, though she understood English. One on my favorite photos of our very young daughters is of them in a pony cart in the Luxembourg gardens during those last summer days in Paris. The only thing that would have made the night more pleasant would have been to have my family here too.
... to get around and see anything. Besides, we had just seen the Cologne Cathedral, and it was a lot more impressive and seemed less “touristy” than Notre Dame.
After seeing Notre Dame, we walked over to a quilt shop Mom found online, where she got some French fabric. Then we went back to the train station mall. I’m not sure if anyone else told you about it, but when we went to the Pompideau Center, the train station was 4 floors below ground. That ...
... maze. The nearest 'sortie' was nowhere near near. Our legs were exhausted, we were starving, our water had run out...Things were looking desperate. We were stranded in a desert of expensive art. Paintings, paintings all around, but not a drop to drink... Then, from nowhere, a green sign. We rushed towards it, daring to hope again after being let down time and time again. We burst through the exit. Sweet, sweet relief. Even the air tasted brighter. Having finally, improbably ...

(Jenn: we drank for about 12 hours today...I'm spent.) Yes, we had lofty goals for today. Our last day in Paris, and it was our amazing luck that it happened to be the most beautiful day since we've been here - 80 degrees, not a cloud ...
Paris, France jdet32Again I apologize for the lack of updates lately. I am always thinking about what to write, but trying to think of words to describe my experiences always seems challenging and then I put off writing. I am realizing though that isn't the best way to approach this, I just need to sit down and write whatever comes to my head and not worry so much about choosing the perfect words to write about my adventures. With that said, my latest adventure was ...
Paris, Île-de-France, France linds86... this fascination with graveyards (and have been to quite a few). Pere Lachaise is hands down the most hauntingly beautiful. The graves and mausoleums were an architectural delight, though some were crumbling with neglect - either forgotten or the descendants of the dead passed on themselves. It was a lesson in architectural design for small spaces - there was more great design in those phone booth sized graves than most buldings I've seen ...
Paris, France soloflyer... of places for us to go until we settled on one near Montmartre, and apparently with quite a history. It seemed, however, that we were the only ones aware of its history, and lucky for us, we got lots of attention and the place all to ourselves. It was actually pretty good. Alli even drank all of hers, and, in fact, we drank the place dry! We left with, sadly, no hallucinations, but just a slight buzz. From there we went and had dinner in a cafe facing the Moulin Rouge. It really ...
Paris, France the_stamms... of the day on Saturday, just watching other events. When we arrived on Thursday, Pierce and I ended up playing a little pick-up basketball at the court at our hotel. From this I was recruited to play basketball for the weekend. This turned at to be the best experience. The team played four games on Saturday before losing to London Business School in the semi-finals. We went on to take 3rd place in the consolation match against Bacconi (Italy) on Sunday ...
