... return (or a very long return!) we found ourselves going down a stony, narrow, uneven pathway that had turned into a torrent! And thunder was rumbling round overhead. Thank goodness for sticks! We didn't die or even fall, but made rather slow and careful and very wet progress, and are now here in our hotel for 2 days!!! Our room is at the very top of the hotel - sloping walls and dormer windows and ...

... level paths round the hillside, shaded, and just wondrous. We walk through pines still, and beeches, and now quite a lot of chestnut and oak trees, and even saw some holly. The leaves are barely showing signs of autumn yet, occasionally a touch of yellow, but mostly still heavy with green leaves. We have arrived at Golinhac now, at about 1 pm and find reception is closed between 12.30 and 2.30 so luckily we have our toys to play with while we wait, and I ...

... This is a very pretty town - another of les plus beaux villages de France. Tiny, so we don't have to explore much, just relax and enjoy. Today's hotel is also excellent. Everything we need. Every hotel this trip, including the 2 Ibis hotels at the beginning, have had windows that open which is so good. Often they are open wide before we arrive, so much better than unopenable windows where you always feel stuffy. Now that we ...

... 27 kms by Amr's gadget. Amr says he has just been speaking to a Canadian who had heard that that last bit was hard and came by the road - and arrived an hour earlier.... We will eat well tonight. I mean we will need lots of replacement, but I don't think this Camino is a weight losing experience. In Spain we both involuntarily lost a few kilos by the end, but the meals here are so wonderful, and always four courses - entree, main, cheese and dessert....what can we do but enjoy ...

Amr says he thinks today was the best walk so far. It was again gorgeous countryside. The book said "moderate" today rather than easy, and I think it was because we had to descend right down a mountainside on rather uneven stony path. In fact I think we have just crossed the Aubrac mountains, having been high up there for the last few days. We left leisurely as it was only 17 kms, and turned out to be 18, but the shortest day so far. Left at 9 ...
