Back on the bikes! 60km from Allemont up to a little town called Villard Reymond. The village way tiny. On the way we had to ride through 3 pitch black tunnels the longest which was 370m. There was one little old French lady with a cafe overlooking the mountains, so we stopped for some apricot tart and raspberry mousse. She was the loveliest lady! Back ...

    Rest day at Allemont

A travel blog entry by eyork on Jul 29, 2015

We left our beloved botchy field, filled up with petrol and drove around the corner to Allemont. We hunted again for gas, or some way to make it work, but no luck. Again. Not very happy! Not only with the gas, but also troubles with the fridge and 12V powerpoints. Baguette for lunch, set up the van with electricity and went for a walk. Cold and rainy this afternoon, but still able to wander through the town of Allemont. A nice quiet rest day ...

... to know "where is the best spot".........

After a few reds and a beer or two, I walked around the corner to stand on the hillside where I had a good view of the last 3kms of winding road up to the top. A great spot to take some photos, I only wished I had brought my long lens so I could get some better shots.
Ultimately the circus arrived, much cheering and noisy car horns.....a Frenchman has ...

    ... and ski.

I was hoping to be able to cross the official finish line but they close the route with about 200 meters left. Thompson had arranged for a hotel basement to lock up our bikes. So we headed to the hotel. After changing clothes the four of us wandered around town and found a little cafe to eat. Of course being Americans we were craving a hamburger and found a place that had an open table. I also enjoyed a local beer which tasted pretty good after the ...
