... and then began a long climb up the Col De Mollard. At the top of this climb the pro riders earn points for the "King of the Mountain" points competition. The KOM is a competition within the 3-week TDF race. The rider who earns the most points wears the white and red polka dot jersey. Points are earned for being the one at the top of the most climbs. A rider may earn the most points yet not win the overall race.

... surrounding mountains as well as the valley below. The only down side is there was no shade and it was getting very hot.

After eating some lunch we walked around. We went to a small church right by the edge of the cliff. From here you could see part of the road up Lacets de Montvernier. I really wish we could have gone up this section but I will have to save that for another trip. We then made our way into the small town and I was very happy to cool off with some ice ...

... by the altitude, only tired from a long day of climbing.

After eating some lunch it was time to head back down the way we came, fortunately the majority of this was down hill. We stopped at the little restaurant to use the facilities. of the Aravia we had an amazing view of Mount Blanc, which is the highest

At the foot of Glandon the event was halted for 15mins whilst they choppered away somebody injured for a crash. Chris told me later that he was stopped on Glandon as well for 45mins for another chopper evacuation.

Glandon was uncomfortable for me but at least the scenery was magnificent, rolling green hills, craggy rocks, waterfalls, little forrests plus the odd village or two....made it interesting.
