    ... we drove north for an hour or so to Kiel and the Baltic Coast. Had a look at the Kiel Canal that connects the North and Baltic Seas by cutting through the base of the Jutland Peninsula. The canal can take ships up to 74,000t and the limiting factor is usually the maximum 42m bridge clearance height.     ... you have to admire the bravery of the guys that did that job, and how the designers fitted so much into a small space, ingenious.
    Quick travel tip.
    On the german motorways there are various service stops. now if you plan your stops well, there are fabulous picnic stops that mean you can just park up, walk the kids/dog, have a picnic in a really nice spot, failing that the services that do food are very reasonable too.

    ... all very touristy. We wanted some more authentic German food. When Leslie talked to Lorraine's and Arlene’s taxi driver, he told her of a restaurant, the Ratskeller. About two blocks off the blue-lined sidewalk, we found the Ratskeller. It was rather chilly, so we opted to eat inside. The ambiance inside was fantastic. It was a rugged décor with wooden ceilings and beams, all supported by wooden columns.

    Once we got back to camp we had a brief meeting and decided
    that it was time to start making our way back to Switzerland again. Our plan is
    to head back via Berlin as we are keen to revisit East Berlin which we last
    visited when “The Wall” was still in place and we are interested to see what
