After a day of organizing, buying a camp stove and one last beer garden with Dieter and Inge we were off to the wild blue yonder of Northern Europe.

We car camped just to see how it would be to set up if we needed to in the rain, plus we really just needed to drive not camp.

In the morning we drove on to Schleswig, the site of a Viking settlement in about 1,000. Here houses have been uncovered ...

No, was the answer, but as we walked back to the car it began to brighten up, and by the time we got to ...

The winds had not abated by Thursday but fortunately the route took us a little more inland, sheltering us from the full force of the wind. We completed our required distance for the day, again wild camping for the night just west of the very nice village of Meldorf.

Friday we again battled fierce head winds as the route hugged the coastline up through the touristy village of Busum, then across an exposed land bridge. We were all on the edge of our mental ...

Kiel- the capital of the Stadt Schleswig-Holstein

A travel blog entry by liz.schmitt.12 on Jun 08, 2014

... for the morning.

Kiel is the capital of the Stadt Schleswig-Holstein. Stadt roughly translates to state and I live in this state. Although, states are not the same as in US, Germany does have 16 states. Kiel is a port city and there were two cruise ships/ ferries docked waiting for their departure to Oslo.

We walked around for about 3 hours, but it was quite overcast and not ...
