... colours of the trees and the brilliant green of the grass was amazing.
E failed to get any lunch as we discovered that 11:11 is a bank holiday in France and everywhere was closed! So we arrived at the hotel at 5:00 pm and were starving! We checked in and the owner kindly provided us with pate and bread and a glass of red....perfect!
Going to Lyon came about mainly from the desire to go to le famous French/Swiss/whatever Alpes in the east of the country, on the way south towards Nice...'France's third-largest city there, might as well go and see'. I had a three-course table d'hôte that consisted of a Lyonnaise salad that came with a warm poached egg on top, a salty-but-not-too-salty chicken fricassee with a mushroom sauce and rice, and a white (goat) cheese with strawberry coulis for dessert--and a 1664 beer. It totally hit the spot and was a good kick-off group dinner. We were all noticeably starting to fade by the end of that, and returned to our hotel by just after 7pm for the night.
