... started with a visit to the Grand Dukes Palace, he didn't invite us in a for a coffee unfortunately!! Then onto the casemates which form part of the city's underground military defence system which commenced in the 10th century. Apparently Italians, Spanish, Belgian, French, Austrian, Dutch and Prussian engineers all took part in the expansion of the fortification, the final casemates were built in 1644. The starts to our days have very little to set them apart at the moment. Its always breakfast consisting of salami, ham and cheese which is a long drawn out affair due to Mikayla nibbling very very slowly because she is sick of salami, ham and cheese.
