... the bodies. We climbed on our bikes and rode 10km up the beach and found a big ship that was now earth bound and zebra's and elephants and white horses. I kid you not. Check out my photos!!!! Now I think the whole of France is at the beach and half of Spain. Its all so different to what we are used to but thats why we are here! Tomorrow we shall go to Carcassonne or maybe the next day. We shall see how hot it ...

This was our last day of serious climbing and we have now dipped wheels and deposited Atlantic stones in the Meditarranean. It was a gorgeous day, and we set off as a group of five, Peter, who is feeling much better, Lori, Steve, Gilles and I. The major climb took us to the Col de Palomere at 1036 m. Well this day was truly a slice. I left the hotel with Peter, Steve and Gilles at 8:30, and arrived at the hotel in Prades at 7 pm. The nominal route was 115 Kms with 6 climbs.

Our little group cut off the first two climbs thus reducing the length by about 12 Kms. We then started our climb of the Col de Pailheres which took us to 2001 metres, with the last 450 metres of altitude being done ...

... with potable water so I reloaded. Caroline and the dog were there, trying to figure what next town on the way would be big enough to have a vet clinic. Certainly Le Boulou. Our new little friend looked like he was enjoying the ride and the company.

As I pulled on to D115 at St-Jean-Pla-de-Corts, Steve, Tim, Lori & Peter (who was feeling MUCH better today) flagged me down from a roadside cafe. I joined them for a ...

DAY 10/June 23: The queen stage

... that also had sandwiches in Mijanes, so we stopped in for lunch. We were joined soon enough by Wayne, Lori, and Mesfin...and a cute little white dog who must have belonged to the shop owner. A generous ham and cheese sandwich for only 3.50 plus a can of Orangina later, and we were on our way again. Since it was already about 2pm and we had 60 km to go including more climbing, I decided to stick to the main route and bypass the alternate.

    We paused on the ...
