We drove for about an hour along more of the narrow, winding mountain roads that lead to the state forest. When we got back to San Giovanni Rotondo there was a St. Francis parade because it was the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. There were several thousand people. Padre Pio was a Capuchin Franciscan ...

... the hotel in San Giovanni Rotondo. When we got to the hotel we checked in, went to our rooms and unpacked. I did some homework. Then we went downstairs to walk to the Shrine of Saint Padre Pio. When we got there we prayed the rosary in the newer church, the Padre Pio Pilgrim Church, and saw Padre Pio's incorrupt body. Finally we ate dinner at the hotel and went to ...

We spent the morning in Matera, again exploring the small streets and visiting an area that hasn't been restored in any way.
