The Whales - mamas and babies migrating north

... know' the whales. We had several opportunities to pet the mamas and babies. Incredible! Enjoyed the seals on our return, as well. And on the way back to town we stopped to view the salt works and let the kids get samples - and then the huge osprey nests. Perfect day; really enjoyed the kids and their responses to the sea life.

South to Guererro Negro, Baja California Sur!!

... to say hi to guard and he gave us a huge salt quartz crystal (which we've since given away). Hope to go back on the way home and get another crystal, really beautiful. Stopped by Mario's Restaurant and Whale Tours to talk with Mario he agreed to let Tatanka stay on the bus during tour. Later, walked through town a bit, ate tacos and went to bed.

Malin's thoughts and more pics.

... Jess already mentioned we had the adrenaline pumping most of the day and the sense of victory and relief once we reached the Bay of LA was enormous. I was so proud of Jess as well, he is a great partner and such a good motorcycle rider ! It took so much skill and precision to ride the road we were on today, I am truly amazed! ...and we never needed the space blankets! Here are some more pics!

... waves. The ferry from Mazatlán to La Paz on the south-eastern coast of Baja California was very well organized - making a welcome change from some of our previous shipping experiences. It was a sixteen hour overnight trip and we were able to sleep in the van. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but we spent a restless night dealing with the deep throb of the motors and smell of diesel exhaust fumes. We were within sight of the ferry terminal just north of La Paz as the sun was ...

The longest two hour drive

... is on that same page in our unwritten books. It is amazing to see how many small worlds have collided here in San Diego and how many walls have already been broken. It's a like a new dawn with a light shining through that none of us have ever really experienced. It is time for something new. And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud, was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. All men and women are born, live ...

Leaving Leon...with a tear in my eye....

... dancing (crazy Rachero madness!), Mexican politics and Mexican food. It's been really nice to have a chance to get to know the people and the place. The Lonely Planet doesn't really talk it up, but I definitely think Leon's worth a visit...it seems like a Mexican Sheffield to me and we all know that must be a good thing! So...what have I done... I've successfully used the local public transport, woo hoo! I've been touched up repeatedly on said ...

Lo que paso, paso...en Leon

... driver!) to El Norte bus station, to board the bus to Leon, to meet Rissa. Now, for those of you who know me well, you will be aware that public transport and I do not always get on. On this occasion it wasn't me, or the bus that was the problem...it was my sister! So, I arrived into Leon bus station at 3:00pm. I thought Rissa would be there, all excited that her little sister had come to see her, but no. So, 4pm came and went...5pm came ...

Hello Baja

A fun first nite. Drinking, guitar, and setting up camp. The next morn brought a good view of where we were at. Swell was huge. Coffee was hot and fresh. The sea air was pure. Time to explore. One more nite of fun here and we move on southbound towards the sea of cortez.

Millers Landing

Made it to Millers Landing. We arrived at dusk, set up camp, built a fire, drank some beer, played some guitar, watched the stars appear as Ive never seen before (billions), played with fire and hit the hay for some early more exploring. I love Baja and life very much at this point.

... spots. We didn't find anything we liked for the camp, but I did learn where Shipwrecks (a pretty famous surf spot) is. After checking out the sand dunes near Solita Linda we camped near El Rosario. The beach was called La Bocana and we had a cool evening surf session. Wednesday we did a lot more exploring, with many more cool dirt roads and interesting stops. One that really sticks out is Catavina, which is strewn with ...
