The day I was turning everyone's head

... I got back to the apartment, my roommates were already back and had found me soup. Figures. They also got me cereal though (my weakness), so soup and pasta be damned! I ate half the box in one sitting. And that was the highlight of my first day in Polignano a Mare.

I was really hoping to feel better in the morning, but alas, I did not. I made myself go out for lunch, at least, and try to explore just a little. I didn't stay out long, but it ...

... to go to Matera today but as its Sunday the train doesn't go there and the bus was too difficult so instead I went to Polignano a Mare. It's a town about 30 mins by train down the coast. It was a nice train ride. Once again, very agricultural. There were a lot of locals out and about. I think it must be a special Sunday cause it's 1 week before Easter. I've seen a lot of people with bunches of olive branches. Maybe it's Palm Sunday ...

... been hard in the old days for people here. The Trulli houses would have been very cold in winter and probably hot in summer. No power or running water. This area was a very poor area of Italy. The food from here is called Cucina Povera meaning something like peasant food. It's good wholesome food. In demand now. Back in Martina Franca and I love the old area. In the dusk light it just looks beautiful. Especially the Church. There's always a lot of old ...

... the apartment and had to have a little nap. Must have been the wine. I think I was a bit stressed about getting lost and then so relieved that I could find my way back. (I did it 3 times first up so it imprinted on my mind!). Later on I read a bit then went out again for a while. Found a shop that has focaccia so I bought a slice of that plus a slice of some jam/nut pie for dinner. All up 3 euro. Happy with that. Day 2 ...

... the school times are but the train left Lecce at 12.45 and they were getting off at different stops so obviously finished school. We keep passing fields of solar panels. Good! As we get closer to MF it starts to get a little but hillier. Lots of terraces now. And stone fruit blossom. We pass a lot of the little trulli houses. They're so cute. Look like fairy houses, or hobbit houses. They're everywhere. Beautiful countryside. It's still raining when the train arrives in MF ...
