Another reluctant departure from Opatja but one must move on. The weather forecast was for "possible rain showers" What's new? Back on the motorways for some serious riding. The first part to Brescia, where I stayed overnight, was a 400 km run. A 400 km run? What the big deal you might say? Well, let me explain! ... year Italy's farmers are growing Sweetcorn....lots of them. Very good but there were fields and fields of them. There wasnt a great deal going on, the only thing of note was the studied ignorance of the lady working behind the buffet counter, she was great, she made everyone wait and remained unflustered as the queues built up. Our last refuge in France was de Mottets, quite a relief after the night before. Although it had been converted from a dairy farm, it had spacious, modern rest rooms, hot showers, semi-private bed room (Barbara only had to share with 3 guys this time).

Actually our roomates were very interesting: ...

... holding her other arm. Both of us felt kind of emotional seeing that.

After about 7 hours total hiking we reached Refuge de Croix de Bonhomme. Although the setting was stunning, this would turn out to be our least favorite refuge of the whole trip. Hot showers were not available till 5 pm (get in line) and the hot water ran out about 20 minutes later. The meal was almost inedible, and when the dinning room ...
