... I was crazy mad with the speed of the descent.

Not much else happening today, had a nice pasta lunch and may double up for dinner. Cleaned the bike it was filthy with all the rain we have had and watched a little TDF.

We are off at sparrows to drive to Le Bourg D'Oisans to spend the day in the region. I will climb the legendary l' Alpe with its 21 hairpins and the meet Mich at the Saturday markets in Le Bourg.

... reasonable gradient as it left St Michel behind.

The descents were frightening and bloody cold, especially from the top of Col de Beau Plan with visibility at about five metres above 1000m. It was a bit of a shock when a deer darted out in front of me. I had my full winter gear on and it was barely enough.

We are off for dinner soon in St Michel then tomorrow two TDF climbs are on the agenda.

Today the plan was to ride three or four cols, well that was the plan, the weather had other ideas.

I set off at 5.30am with just a light drizzle and if you have seen today's stage of the TDF you would know it became progressively worse.

I made it to Thones climbing the Col De Bluffy however by then I was soaked through. My rain booties and gloves had given up and became water capsules, I couldn't warm up and still had to climb over 1400 metres.

The Alps beat me ...

... a door. Weird.

Connie and I spent the next few hours washing cycling gear and my bike so I'd be ready for Alpe D'Huez the next day and getting cleaned up so we could go out for dinner. We found a really great little restaurant a couple of hundred meters from the hotel where I had Tartare de boeuf and Connie had a big plate of pasta. At the table beside us was a couple with a great looking chocolate Lab that quietly laid there between the tables. ...

... place we'd stopped at didn't make crepes so Connie wasn't able to get her fix.

At the hotel we sat in the patio in back for a couple of hours chatting with some of the other cyclists that were starting to filter in from their rides. There was a group of seven riders from Belgium that had done the Grande Fondo de Marmotte, which is a one day 175km ride through 3 Cols and culminating with Aple D'Huez. Hmmm...I may have to come back for ...
