... into a shop you have no idea what someone is going to say. I was spoken to mainly in French, to which I replied, “Sorry”, because there is no way I could even attempt to speak French. The beer wench did correct me when I said “Thank you”, she said “We say Danke”. So for the rest of the night I said Danke every time, I was not messing with her.
The next day we headed back into the town centre of Brugge to go to the Christmas ...
Hi,
... head home as we had planned an early-ish morning the next day, we were going to rent a car (booked online) and drive out to Bruges. So we got up and went off to the Europcar place...and...it was not open...now, cutting a LONG, frustrating story short, we didn't end up getting a car, because it was Sunday, and nothing was open! So after a miserable and annoying morning, we went back to the hotel, had a little nap and then went back ...
Belgium, Belgium ilovetheworld... the farm house into their retirement home. So, two homes in a small village, looking out over a Van Gogh landscape. M-E did much of the work herself, with her brother and it is a very comfortable, beautiful and roomy home. Sebastian just took up gardening for the first time and we had an abundance of tomatoes (he planted 70 varieties) haricot vert and courgettes to eat. Sebastian's english was about like my french, only he's more shy, so when M-E left the room, we ...
Namur, Wallonia, Belgium nancy.chappell... sleep then my stupid phone alarm rung to tell me to get up...I had to go a big agricultural fair in Libramont with my host family who were already in Libramont with friends. Laura's brother dropped me home, and the people who were going to drive me to Libramont were there one minute after I got home! Ahh stress, I got everything I had to do done (feed the dog, give it water, pack some things Cat had forgotten, brush teeth etc) and off we went. I really wanted ...
Mornimont, Wallonia, Belgium xoxoliza... street signs at every corner as well as you dont have to stop all the time. The not so cool thing is that as a newcomer to the city, you are always looking ahead to keep from hitting someone or something that happens to be in front of you, looking to the left to make sure that the cars and bikes see you as you enter the intersection with the priority over them so you don't get your dumb ass run over and looking right to see if someone is coming who will have priority over you. They ...
Dinant, The Ardennes, Belgium jmanc2... 5 feet of Jesus Christ's blood. After the round of chuches we decided we need a change of pace, so we decided that would be a good time to explore the belgium culture...CHOCOLATE and BEER! We went to about 3 chocolate shops and bought a variety from each, than we moved on to the beer (the pride and joy of belgium). The beer we stopped at was the 'T Brugs Beertje bar. We sat down and a nice gentleman asked so what type of beer we ...
Burges, Belgium abauerly... very dangerous! We visited the Maison Sax, the house and museum dedicated to Adolphe Sax, founder of the saxophone. Despite the heat, the entire town was unbelievably picturesque and charming, and we were having a great time. Late afternoon-ish, we walked up to the entrance of the Grotte la Merveilleuse, a large complex of caves that were discovered nearly a century ago and had been used as hiding places during WWII. We took a tour ...
Dinant, Belgium segacs... came to this forest last year, but went to a different area. This forest is famous for its amazing display of wild hyacinths (called "wild bluebells" here) that carpets the forest floor for an amazingly brief 3 weeks or so out of the year. Our timing was once again impeccable,as the bluebells started blooming less than a week ago. I just love this place, it's magical. To get to the forest the way we did, these are ...
Halle, Belgium purpleturtle... around in. This was pretty cool, but we only had a parking permit for a couple of hors and we managed to get a parking ticket !!!!! We drove onto Brugges. We are really not big fans of this place, but this was the Euro trip, so we went and stopped there. Luckily we did, as there is a brewery there that offers tours !!!!! How unusual. After the Heineken tour, well how bad it was, we found this one refreshing. The beer at the end was ...
