... back through the town to our car.

From Provins, we had an easy drive to Reims. The sun can out during our drive – hurray! On the way, we drove through the town of Epernay, which has some of the most expensive real estate in the world, along the Avenue de Champagne. Of course, we drove along the avenue, admiring the chateau of all the famous champagne makers.

We found our hotel (a 19th century champagne chateau) and checked in around 2pm. After ...

Our morning walk to Mondemont. Looked around the collection of houses which surrounded La Carotte, checked out the tiny local cemetery, admired the manor house (again), and noticed a board with multiple walking trails indicated on it. I expect more adventures and excursions to come, so look out for my upcoming posts!

... champagne houses and also told to check out the church where Dom Perignon's tomb lies. A quick drive back up the road (still raining) and we jumped out and ducked into the beautiful little church! Quite a simple building overall, the interior was more beautiful to me for it's simplicity, lovely wooden features including some amazing carving. We then crossed the street to Gobillard et Fils, a quite hidden little champagne house, but one of the ones recommended. Inside we found a ...

... navigated Claudia through some very narrow and winding roads, and upon arrival Pierre met us at the door. This particular champagne house is small - in fact, they only produce 60,000 bottles a year (mostly sold only in France) and it is almost as if they make the wine in the back of the house. But that just made the tour all the more enjoyable as it is still done on a very small scale, without the trappings of the tourist industry to which ...
