Woke up to another beautiful day. Hotel Pavillon had been excellent and a great place to relax for the night. Dinner was a 5 course meal with great wine to celebrate harriet's birthday. See the picture from our room window. It is going to be very difficult leaving here to get on the path again. Such a quaint and modern town. Next stop Lavachey, still in Italy but just a small hamlet. -- ...

... we continued on our upward journey, climbing up a path following a riverbed. This was the major climb of the day. We finally reached the top (4000 feet up from our start). We will all sleep well tonight - Tali We are all exhausted , so early night as we have the longest day and highest ascent (4000 ft) ...

... amp;b to dry off and change for dinner. We decided it would be best to return to Le Freti, the scene of our first amazing meal in the Haute Savoie. We were treated to another great seat with our fabulous waiter, Toni, from the previous night. He remembered us, and was a riot to chat with all night. Watching him teach a Korean couple how to dip and eat fondue was one of the highlights of my life. He was so gentle and patient, explaining ...

This morning was clear and sunny so we got up early and joined the thousands of other people trying to get up to Aguille du Midi via the cable car. We joined the line and thought it would be hours before we even started our way up, but amazingly it was rather quick. Apparently they can move 600 people an hour to the summit. Each gondola takes about 50 people, standing up, ...
