Brie, baguettes and the Eiffel Tower

Today was a serious day of walking, pretty much from one end of the city to the other! We started off the day with a cafe creme (these are so good, we might be addicted by the time we get back) in the Jardin des Tuileries, then strolled along the Seine towards Notre Dame. Built in the 1100“s, this Gothic cathedral, which is situated on the Ile de la Cite (a little island in the the Seine), is absolutely gorgeous. It has huge detailed stained glass windows and stone gargoyles sitting everywher...

Diary from Thursday 10th

Thursday 10.5.07 We all woke after a good night of rest looking forward to another day in Paris. We set off early to the Musee deCluny which is dedicated to art of the modern age. Rather odd as it is housed over one of the most ancient sites in Paris, a bath house, dating back to Roman times. A French conundrum there! The collection of jewellery; necklaces and brooches...yes ....brooches was amazing, prompting me to ask if they would sell any of it if the price was right! A short metro ride l...

Hotel des Invalids Gardens

I slept a pretty solid 9 hours and woke up just before my alarm at 8.30. I felt surprisingly good until I stood up and damn near fell flat on my ****. I shoved everything in my rucksack and tried not to think about how I was gonna have to carry it around for the next 8 hours. I successfully checked out and metroed to Trocedero. I suspect this area is supposed to be crowded with tourists and stalls, but at 9.15 it was empty and felt decidedly dead. I obtained hot chocolate which I promptly spi...

Paris Heat Wave

Bonjour!! We arrived to Paris from Caen on the afternoon train and found the hotel we had booked a few months ago. Our hotel was in the Montmarte area of Paris near the Place de Clichy metro stop. Once we arrived, we decided to start seeing the sights immediately. This was Suzanne's first time to Paris and Jeremy's fourth!! First off, we went to the Arc de Triomphe then walked from here towards the Eiffel Tower via the Trocadero Square. The Trocadero Square provides a fantastic viewing area o...

Tuesday : St. Denis, Invalides, Arc de Triomphe

Tuesday, June3rd: Another busy day for us! Left the apt 9-9:30 and took the metro to the north part of the city , St. Denis, probably not part of Paris technically as it used to be it's own town... everything seems grown together to a visitor... anyway I loved this Basilica. It was full of the people we had studied in our history class this year plus some others. A short list includes Dagobert, Charles Martel, Pepin the Short, M. Antoinette, Louis 16th, Louis 14th (I think), Henry 2nd, Cather...

Excellent hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I had a fabulous time at the Hotel de France Invalides. I stayed 5 nights. The location is superb, with a great view on the Invalides church. St Germain it not too far and makes for a very pleasant walk.

My room was bigger than I'd seen up until then in Paris hotels, it was clean and comfortable and very quiet as well. Staff was kind, the Internet point in the lobby was a treat. I didn't eat breakfast but from what I saw it looked quite rich for a 2-star hotel in Paris.

All in all, a very good stay. Recommended.

A great place to stay.

I stayed at this Hotel for 8 days, I'm a single woman traveling alone and I could not have been more pleased with my stay. The Room was clean and very comfortable. The neighbourhood was safe and quiet at night. I had a wonderful view of "Les Invalides". The metro was just a block away, and the Eiffel tower was a leisure 10 min. walk. The breakfast was more than adequate and the staff were polite and helpful. I would recommend this Hotel and would stay there again.

Grand little Hotel

We stayed at this hotel for three nights, and I couldnt honestly fault it. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the girls on reception couldnt do enough for us, the helped us out with directions, phoning taxi's and giving us advice where to shop and where not to be alone at night. The breakfast for €9 was very good value, there was everything you could possibly want, fresh fruit, eggs, cereals, a variety of breads, cold meats, yoghurts, cake, crossiants cheeses, juice, a variety of tea's and coffee, and you could have as much as you needed without anyone giving you the evil eye. The location is very central and very safe, we heard stories of other locations around paris being unsafe for women travelling alone, we had no problems with this area.

Our room was a the back of the hotel, we would have like a room with a view but it was fine, the room was spotless, the beds were very comfy and the bathroom was small but very clean, the rooms were cleaned daily, by lovely staff, who were most unobtrusive. There was no noise at night except so a good nights sleep was guaranteed.

We couldnt fault this hotel in any way, we will certainly go back and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Very satisfied with our choice of hotel at Paris

Based on the reviews on your web site, we made reservations at the Hotel de France Invalides at the boulevard la tour Mauborg.. The taxi drive from the airport to the hotel was filled with anxiety not knowing what was awaiting us at the end of that trip.

We were very happy on arrival to discover that our hotel was very comfortable and charming. We were two adults and two teenage boys and we were given two adjoining rooms on the fourth floor. (148.00 Euros for both the rooms) From our room 403/404 the view was just fantastic. We had a beautiful view of the dome of the hotel des invalides. Our beds were as clean and comfortable as can be.

The bathrooms were very modern and very very clean with all the amenities (ony thing to be warned about is that there were no shower curtains around the bathtubs...by the end of your trip you will become an expert on how to use a hand held shower without getting water on the floor!)

The breakfast provided at the hotel was 9 Euros. It was quite a spread with your choice of hot beverage, and an assortment of croissants and breads, cereals, boiled eggs, cold cuts, yogurt, cheeses, and juices...

My boys did eat outside in the nearby brasseries and had omelettes prepard for the same money!

The l'ecole militaire was the nearest metro to the hotel.

The invalides was of course right outside the hotel and

the eiffel tower was just a 10 minute walk away...

The charming Rue Cler was quite close to our hotel too.

We were concerned that we might be too hot without AC in the rooms

during the third week in July, but it was just fine ....

Agnes the woman at the reception was friendly and spoke engish very well..Bernard worked the night shift and he was most charming...

I would higly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Paris in the near future.

EXCELLENT FOR A FAMILY HOLIDAY

from Redartin
Just spent 4 nights there with my wife and 2 daughters aged 12 & 11. We had interlocking rooms, my daughters had a twin room with en-suite and we had a double room, also with en-suite. We had two T.V's, two mini bars, and two magnificent views of Invalides dome as shown in the hotel's web-site. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast offered a great choice, especially for kids, the small bar area was nice and relaxing and had a free internet point.

We went on an "Open Tour" Bus trip for two consecutive days and one of the bus stops was right outside the hotel which was more than usefull. No traffic noise at night, clean comfortable rooms, close to at least 3 metro stations and 5-10mins walk to Effiel Tower and a 15-20 min interesting walk to Champs Elyeese. Will definitely go back and will recommend it to friends, especially with kids.

Not many Hotels in Paris have family rooms for 4.

The perfect alternative

from A TripAdvisor Member
I am not very into writing reviews on hotels or holidays destinations (even more now that I've read how some people could rate poorly Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires!) because these are very personal issues and what I may find amazing other people may find disgusting!

However, I think Hotel de France deserves my opinion.

Hotel de France is probably, one of the best price-quality relation hotel you may found in Paris. Excellent price, wonderful and REALLY charming staff, nice rooms with EXCELLENT views of Les Invalides. Nice area, relaxing and quite, but close to Eiffel Tower and of course, opposite to Les Invalides. Nice bar and breakfast is ok. If you are looking for a the perfet hotel with a good price (for Paris) choose Hotel de France. 100% recommended.

Absolutely perfect

from The_Swedes
We looked for a decent Hotel in Paris for weeks.

We found many Hotels that had a great price, just to discover that they had gotten very bad reviews on this site. Finally we found a hotel that was not described here, as many hotels were booked up we decided to try it out. At least nobody said that it wasn't good;-)

We were NOT disappointed, the hotel is situated right across Les Invalides, offers a wonderful view from the room. A walking distance to the Eifeltower and the staff was VERY nice and helpful.

We stayed in a queen size room for three nights 95 Euros per night with an extra bed free of charge.

We loved every minute of our stay and we will absolutely com back to this hotel as soon as we can.

Ok, but there's better in the area.

from A TripAdvisor Member
Not too impressed, it was just ok. Staff was a little aloof, but I had just come from a hotel where the staff was energetic and friendly, so I may be a bit biased.

The lobby's been remodeled and is fantastically modern, but our room desperately needed a paint job. The walls were white but badly scuffed and marked up. We had a triple that was extremely small; we had to literally walk over the third bed to get to the window. The bathroom was not practical for a triple, extremely small but nicely done. If you go, ask for a street side room so you'll have a view of the Invalides.

Nice neighborhood, safe to roam around at night. Walk a few blocks and you'll be at the Rue Cler area with lots of nice sidewalk bistros and cafes. Take a side street at night and be rewarded with a fabulous view of the Eiffel Tower all lit up!

Excellent Little 2-Star Hotel

from Carlingford
Just returned from a 5 night stay at Hotel de France Invalides. This is an excellent little 2-star hotel. We had a good-sized bedroom (7.5 x 15 ft) on the 5th floor. All bedrooms have standard furnishing as per picture in internet brochure. Some are smaller than others but all looked OK. Everything is spotless clean and towels are changed daily. The bathroom with bath/shower was a good size and spotless too. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a large variety of cereals, rolls, croissants, cake, cheeses, meat, eggs, fruit, etc. The locations is about 5 min walk to metro Ecole Militaire. There are a number of restuarants in the vicinity. The Eiffel Tower is about 10-15 mins walk.

There are two lifts - one extremely small, suitable for one stout person or two thin persons!

Great value

from vdel
We stayed at The Hotel de France Invalides for 6 nights and had a wonderful experience. The rooms are typically small hotel roms but very clean. Our room had a beautiful view of the dome of Les Invalides which is across the street. The location is convenient with metro stops 2 blocks away in 2 different directions. There is a small fruit stand/grocery store around the corner, a creperie within a block and a few ATM machines in easy walking distance. The breakfast served at the hotel (7 euros) is very good. Besides the usual breads, juice and coffee you can have eggs, yogurts or fruit. They have hard-boiled eggs or fresh eggs to be soft-boiled to your liking. The staff is very friendly and the little bar area just off the lobby is convenient if you need a break but don't feel like leaving. All in all, a very good value.
