Accommodation that night was 20km up the mountain from Foix in a nice B&B. There was a spectacular view and dinner was supurb, Duck stew!!. The 3 bottles of red that accompanied it helped as well. Also Paul was named Deal champion of Foix.

As the locks do not open until 9am there was not much rush the next morning so I went for a walk along the canal and back, I discovered that we had spent the night beside a motorway and a railway line and as I walked I saw trains hurtling by and lots of early morning traffic heading to wherever they go at that time of the morning.
... to descend it meant if you tied off and did not pay attention as the boat descended in the lock it would become hung up on the ropes. Now I am not one to blame others but I can say it was not Jude or I that were at fault :) The guilty parties had tied off the ropes and wandered off to look at the sights and as we descended all hell broke loose as we collectively all realized that was happening as the boat took on a marked list to one side.
